Manhattan offers several parking options for holiday car rentals, including Essex Street Garage (359 spaces), Central Park's 209 West 51st (440 spaces), and Times Square Garage (423 spaces). Bronx options include Ruppert Plaza Garage (1,580 spaces) and 161st Street Garage (933 spaces). Edison Park Fast provides 300 secure spaces.


New York City and New York state is connected by several highways and routes:

  • Interstate 278 (I-278) serves all five New York City boroughs, connecting the city with neighboring New Jersey.
  • Interstate 495 (I-495) is known as the Long Island Expressway and travels from Midtown Manhattan, heading east to Riverhead, Long Island.
  • 7th Avenue runs through the heart of NYC, starting at leafy Greenwich Village, through Midtown and Times Square, finishing at Central Park.

JFK Airport is just over 30 minutes away from downtown New York in around an 18-mile journey in your rental car. Get on the Brooklyn Bridge from Park Row, then take the I-278 East, I-495 East and Grand Central Parkway to I-678 South in Queens.

Rush hours are between 8am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm in high traffic areas like downtown Manhattan. Alternate, less busy routes like the West Side Highway or FDR Drive. Driving your car rental outside of rush hours can help you avoid the hustle and bustle of New York.

 

Follow the signs to the Airtrain to get to the Hertz facility located at Federal Circle Station.  They come every five minutes or so, and you can board them from all terminals.
