What is an agency operator ?

An agency operator is an independent business partner who operates a local Hertz, Dollar, or Thrifty rental location. Hertz provides the brand, fleet, and core technology. The operator manages the day-to-day business. You are accountable for performance, team leadership, and customer experience at your location, while working within established brand standards and operational policies.

Responsibilities of an agency operator 

  • Drive the growth and success of your location. Grow rental demand within your local market by improving service quality, building awareness, and encouraging repeat business through targeted, market-specific activity.
  • Recruit and manage your own team. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff. Set clear expectations, maintain service standards, and ensure consistent performance across daily operations.
  • Promote Hertz Group brands and deliver exceptional customer service. Represent Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty in your market. Maintain brand standards and ensure every rental interaction supports long-term customer trust.
  • Maintain a business plan focused on local market development. Set measurable targets based on demand, competition, and customer behavior. Adjust operations to respond to local conditions and performance trends.

Minimum Requirements

  • Prior sales or business ownership experience
  • Supervisory or leadership background
  • Ability to work independently and manage operations
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Vehicle rental or travel industry experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain a certificate of insurance for the location in order to operate
  • Successful candidates will undergo a criminal background check as well as a credit check and other legal and compliance screenings.
