Car Rental in Las Vegas

Reserve a rental car in Las Vegas to explore one of the USA's brightest and most energetic cities – and the vast, spectacular desert on its doorstep.

Hertz car rental in Las Vegas allows you to pick up your chosen vehicle from Harry Reid International Airport – less than a 20-minute drive from Las Vegas Boulevard, also known as the Strip. Whether heading to the MGM Grand's casino, dining in Hell's Kitchen, or marveling at the world-famous Bellagio Fountains, your Las Vegas rental car can take you there.

Choose an ultra-modern Tesla to match the city’s bright lights. Or travel out of Las Vegas in a rental Jeep to admire Nevada's gems – see Red Rock Canyon, Lake Tahoe, or the Hoover Dam in style.

Maybe you're planning a classic road trip to Los Angeles or San Francisco? Drop off your Las Vegas rental car at a different Hertz location to where you picked it up for no extra charge.

Reserve your Las Vegas car rental to drive down the iconic Strip or discover Nevada’s Great Heights with Hertz.

Las Vegas Boulevard is the city’s main road. Otherwise, a few key highways serve Las Vegas:

  • Interstate 15 (I-15) runs south from Los Angeles, through the center of Las Vegas, and north towards Utah and eventually Salt Lake City. Renting a car in Las Vegas makes it easier to get around.
  • Interstate 515 (I-515) is a 14.5-mile spur of I-15 from downtown Las Vegas out east to Henderson.
  • Route 95 leaves central Las Vegas and heads northwest out into the desert, passing Death Valley.

To get from Harry Reid International Airport to the Strip in your Las Vegas rental car:

  1. Leave the airport with your Las Vegas rental car and turn left onto Wayne Newton Boulevard.
  2. Follow the boulevard for nearly a mile before taking the exit ramp to Swenson Street/Tropicana Avenue.
  3. Merge onto McCarran Airport Connector/Wayne Newton Boulevard, heading north for just under two miles with your Las Vegas car rental.
  4. Turn left onto East Flamingo Road, and after 1.5 miles, you’ll reach the heart of the Strip.

Top Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Las Vegas

You must be at least 16 to drive in Las Vegas. However, if you want to rent a car in Las Vegas, you need to be at least 20 – and if you’re under 25, you may need to pay a Young Renter daily fee.

Remember to have your full photo ID driver’s license with you to rent and drive here. We may also ask to see your passport and you’ll need a credit card to secure your Las Vegas car rental.

Nevada law requires all occupants of almost all vehicles to wear a car safety belt, or if a small child, to be safely strapped into a child seat. Please be mindful of this when you pick up your Las Vegas rental car and always wear your safety belt.

When it comes to speed limits, you may think Las Vegas is the same as much of Nevada, but there are exceptions to this rule.

Here are the speed limits you’re expected to adhere to when you collect your rental car in Las Vegas:

Trucks

Residential roads

25-30 mph

Urban highways

Please note:
While you, of course, must stick to specified speed limits in Las Vegas, the state of Nevada also has a ‘basic rule’ you need to follow. As well as keeping to any signed limits, you also need to consider traffic, road conditions and weather to judge what is a ‘proper’ speed. This may be well below the signposted limit.

If you have any more queries, our Las Vegas driving guide may help – and if you’re planning to check out wider Nevada, read through our state guide too.

Las Vegas is a busy place for both traffic and footfall. So – like any major city – there are times of day and areas to avoid.

Rush hour times typically span from around 7am to 9am, then in the evening it’s around 4pm to 6pm.

It may be best to plan your routes in your rental car to avoid Las Vegas Boulevard wherever possible and instead opt for quieter routes. If you need to travel on the Westside of the Strip, Frank Sinatra Drive runs parallel. And parallel to the Strip on the Eastside is Koval Lane.

If your flight lands at Harry Reid International Airport, you can reach the McCarran Rent-A-Car Center by hopping onto one of the 24/7 shuttles. It’s also possible to get a shuttle bus into the city to collect your Las Vegas rental car from an HLE.
