Orlando Car Rental FAQs

It's helpful to know available parking spots before you pick up your Orlando rental car. Places to park in the city include:

  • Parking garages for your rental car in Downtown Orlando, with on-street parking also available.
  • Reserve a parking spot at one of the garages in advance using the Orlando.gov website. This option can be handy if you’re attending a popular event.
  • Parking passes are available from Disney, which allows you to hop between different Disney-owned theme parks and avoid paying a charge for each.

  • Interstate 4 (I-4) is Orlando’s main highway. It’s eight lanes wide and runs from the northeast to the southwest side of the city.
  • International Drive is the city’s most popular road, where you’ll spend time as a tourist. It’s filled with shopping malls, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Hop in an Orlando holiday car rental and take the family for a spin.
  • The Beach Line Expressway leads from the City Center to attractions such as Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach.

Leave Universal Studios Florida in your Orlando rental car and take the I-4 E before taking Florida’s Turnpike and FL-528 to exit 11 where you’ll merge onto Jeff Fuqua Boulevard to the airport.

Top Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Orlando

There are some basic requirements for renting a car in Orlando. These rules include needing a driver’s license, passport, and credit card before you can drive away and enjoy Orlando in your rental car. The minimum age to rent a car in the state of Florida with Hertz is 21.

When you’re driving through Orlando in your rental car, you’ll need to adhere to the rules of the road. The speed limits throughout the state are:

  • 70mph on Interstate roads.
  • 65mph on four-lane divided highways.
  • 60mph on all other Florida highways.
  • 30mph in residential locations.

You must also wear a seatbelt, and it’s illegal to text while operating a vehicle. Read our guide to driving in Florida for more information before you get behind the wheel of your Orlando rental car.

Traffic in Orlando can be busy but is usually manageable despite the city being heavy with tourists. Traffic tends to flow well thanks to the many wide and well-maintained roads. The I-4 highway can get busy during peak times, but the eight available lanes help spread the traffic. Renting a car in Orlando makes it easier to drive around the city.

However, during rush hours between 7:30 am – 9:30 am and 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm especially, it may be best to avoid the I-4 in your Orlando rental car. If you absolutely need to travel during these times and are happy to pay tolls, toll roads 408 and 528 may be your best options.

Collect a rental car from Orlando International Airport no matter when you land. Our Hertz lot at the airport is open 24 hours a day, and you can hop on one of our 24/7 shuttles to find us. It’s also possible to get a shuttle bus into the city to one of our HLE locations.

If you need any more information, contact our support center, and we’ll be on hand to help.
