What are car seats for children?

Rental car seats for children are an add-on that accommodates infants and children up to a certain size and weight limit. Hertz offers booster seats for children who have outgrown regular infant and child car seats. These seats are suitable for children weighing around 40-80 pounds.

Convertible child seats are also available. These can be fitted in a front-facing or rear-facing direction, depending on the size and weight of the child. Child seats are suitable for children weighing around 20-40 pounds.

The infant child seats available are suitable for babies up to one year old. These seats must be installed in a rear-facing direction so they can support the child’s neck, back, and spine correctly. Infant child seats have an upper weight limit of 20 pounds.

How much do car seats for children cost?

Prices for car seats for children start from $13.99 per day and vary per location. There is a standard daily charge which is added to your daily rental total charge. The costs are broken down in full during the booking process.

Do I need car seats for children?

Car seats for children aged 12 and younger are mandatory, to keep your child safe if they are within a certain weight or height limit. Each US state has its own regulation in place to protect children. These laws outline the specifics regarding which seat should be used to suit the child’s age, size and height. Each state’s law will also specify whether the seat should be back-facing or front-facing. It is recommended that you refer to these before booking your rental car with car seat.

Installing a car seat for your child not only protects them from harm, it also helps you avoid unwanted fines. If you are found to be driving with a child who is not in the correct seat, you could receive a fine. The total of the fine can vary depending on the state you are driving in and if you have any other previous driving penalties.

Please note that you are responsible for installing the child seat at the start of your rental. Instructions will be provided along with the car seat.

What are the alternatives to car seats for children?

Child car seats are a legal necessity for children up to the age of 12, so there are no alternatives available that offer the same level of protection, both legal and physical.
