You can park your Miami car rental at Miami Beach, which has garages such as 17 Street (33139) and 1755 Meridian Avenue (33139), both have 650 spots. You can also park in the streets, with meters payable by credit card or app.


Some of the main roads and freeways in Miami are the Interstate 95 (I-95), Dolphin Expressway (SR 836), Palmetto Expressway (SR 826), Airport Expressway (SR 112), and MacArthur Causeway (SR A1A).


From Downtown, take I-95 north, merge onto Dolphin Expressway (836) west, exit at NW 37th Avenue, then drive to NW 21st Street. The trip takes about 15 minutes in moderate traffic.


Top Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Miami

You must be 21 years of age to rent a car in Miami with Hertz. You’ll need a full photo driver’s license from your home state or territory. You’ll need to be at least 25 years old to get a luxury lease. Young drivers aged under 25 will need to pay an additional rental fee on top of the daily rental cost, paid once per rental regardless of the number of under 25 drivers in the car. 

  • Red lights – you’re able to right turn at a red light in Miami unless it’s stated differently.
  • Signaling – signaling is a must when turning or changing lanes. Be aware of drivers who move without doing so.
  • Right of way – right of way always belongs to pedestrians in Miami.
  • Cell phone use – it’s illegal to use your phone when driving in Miami.
  • Bad weather – have headlights and your windshield wipers on in wet weather.

Rush hour is typically from 7-10 am in the morning in Miami. Bird Road, Southwest 117th Avenue Bird Road, or Southwest 40th Street are the areas with the heaviest traffic in Miami.

Some suggestions to avoid congestion in the city are to travel outside rush hour or use toll roads. Some alternate routes to consider are Venetian Causeway – an alternate route to Miami Beach. Or Rickenbacker Causeway, less busy if you’re heading to Key Biscayne.
