Car Rental - Connecticut

When driving through Connecticut, you must not exceed the following driving speeds:

• Residential areas – 40 mph
• Urban freeways – 55 mph
• Rural freeways – 65 mph

Speed limits change, depending on the road type and region, so you must always read road signposts to identify any change in speed.

• If you’re visiting Hartford, then One Financial Plaza Garage (06103) has over 1,100 spaces and is a short walk away from Bushnell Park.
• When parking in Stamford, the Stamford Town Center Garage (06901) contains over 3,800 spots and parking can be paid for using cash, card or via mobile app.
• Interstate 84 (I-84) runs east-west across the state, beginning in Union at the Massachusetts state line. It continues through Manchester, Hartford and Waterbury, finishing in Danbury at the New York state line. 
• Interstate 91 (I-91) is the major north-south thoroughfare in western Connecticut, following the Connecticut River. It is the best connecting route from New Haven and Hartford, to Springfield in Massachusetts.   
• Interstate 95 (I-95) is the main highway along the east coast of the country. In Connecticut, the highway follows the shoreline between Greenwich and New Haven, then travels on to Bridgeport and Norwalk.
• Connecticut Turnpike stretches east-west and shares a roadbed with the I-95 for 88 miles, between Greenwich to East Lyme.

New Haven to Mystic

Mystic is only any hour away from New Haven in your rental car. Simply exit the city center via the I-95 N for around 50 minutes, passing Hammonasset Beach State Park and crossing the Connecticut River. Then, take exit 89 onto state highway 614 and cross the Mystic River to reach the village.

Stamford to Hartford

You can get from Stamford to Hartford in just under 90 minutes when you follow the I-95 north. Use exit 48 to merge onto the I-91 in New Haven, then continue up towards Hartford by staying on that route.
