There are plenty of parking spaces in Atlanta for your rental car. There are around 180 parking garages and lots across Downtown Atlanta. Opening hours and rates vary between locations, but you’ll have plenty of options for your Atlanta car rental. There are also more than 2,400 on-street metered parking spaces across the city of Atlanta, which can be paid for using coins, cards or smartphone apps.


  • Interstate 20 (I-20) crosses east to west through central Atlanta, heading west across the Alabama state line into Birmingham and east towards Augusta.
  • Interstate 75 (I-75) runs north to south via Downtown Atlanta, traveling into Macon, en route to Florida in the south. Northwards, it heads into Tennessee.
  • Interstate 85 (I-85) skirts Downtown and winds northeast into South Carolina. Southwest, it travels into Montgomery.

Get into your Atlanta rental car and head onto the I-75 S/I-85 South. Follow I-85 South to Airport Blvd in College Park. Take exit 72 from I-85 South and continue on Airport Boulevard. Drive to South Terminal Parkway. Arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.


Top Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Atlanta

You need to be at least 21 to rent a car with Hertz in Atlanta. As well as having your driver’s license and rental agreement on you, you must also carry a few essential items including a first aid kit, jump cables, puncture kit and proof of insurance.

  • There is a ‘Slowpoke law’ which states that even if you’re driving the speed limit in the left-hand lane, you must give way to cars driving faster than you.
  • Headlights need to be on when driving in heavy rain.
  • You need to give way to emergency vehicles and slow down at least 10mph under the speed limit.
  • At an intersection with no traffic lights, the driver on the left needs to give way to the driver on the right.

If you want to avoid Atlanta traffic, avoid taking your rental for a spin between 7:00am and 9:00am and 4:00pm and 7:00pm. If you need to travel during these times, be sure to plan ahead.

When you land at Atlanta Airport, follow the signs to the SkyTrain station. The SkyTrain will take you to the RCC, where you can find Hertz and collect your Atlanta rental car.

  1. Leave Downtown Atlanta via I-75 South.
  2. Keep left to remain on this route until Exit 165.
  3. Take the exit to merge onto I-16 East.
  4. Stay on this route for 164 miles.
  5. Use Exit 167B to merge onto Montgomery Street.
  6. Take a left onto Turner Boulevard.
  7. Then a right onto Martin Luther King Boulevard to arrive.

Nashville is less than a four-hour drive from Atlanta in a rental car. To get to Music City, follow I-50 North and eventually take I-24 West to arrive.
