  • I-4 goes from east to west, passing through Orlando to Tampa. It joins the I-95 in the east and the I-75 in the west.
  • I-10 arrives in Florida from the west, where it starts in Palm SpringsCalifornia. Takes you across the north of the state, through Tallahassee to Jacksonville.
  • I-95 travels along the east coast, from Miami up to Jacksonville, where it continues north to New York.

When driving around Florida in your rental car, ensure you stick to state laws and rules of the road. The speed limits throughout the state are:

  • 70mph on Interstates in Florida.
  • 65mph on four-lane divided highways situated outside urban areas.
  • 60mph on all other state highways.
  • 30mph in residential areas.

 

There are other state driving laws to consider, including needing a driver’s license, passport, and credit card to rent a car in Florida. You must also wear a seatbelt, and it’s illegal to text while operating a vehicle.


Yes, you’ll find some interstate highways have tolls in operation when traveling in your Florida rental car. According to VisitFlorida, there are bridges on some of the coastal islands that charge a toll, and you’ll also find tolls on the following roads:
