Fort Lauderdale Car Rental FAQs

You can park your car rental in Fort Lauderdale’s beachfront parking in Las Olas Boulevard, or the paid public on-street parking. There are also parking facilities available at Fort Lauderdale Airport.


The main roads and freeways are Interstate 95, running through Fort Lauderdale from north to south, and Interstate 75, which goes through the Everglades National Park.


It’s a short, one-mile or so trip from the center of Fort Lauderdale to Las Olas Boulevard, in a less than five-minute journey in your car rental. Simply head south-east on East Broward Boulevard towards SE 15th Avenue and take a left onto Las Olas Boulevard.


Top Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Fort Lauderdale

  • You must be at least 21 to rent a car in Florida. For more information on renting a car under 25 years of age, check out our article.
  • You’ll need the following: Driver’s license, passport or other national ID, insurance proof, rental agreement (if applicable), and warning triangle. 

 

  • Seat belts are always worn by drivers and passengers.
  • The first vehicles to arrive at four-way crossing proceed first. In the event that two or more arrive simultaneously, drivers on the left need to yield right of way to those on the right.
  • Make room for emergency vehicles, giving them priority on the road.
  • Turning right on red at intersections is permissible, unless there is a sign stating otherwise.
  • Headlights on at all times in rain or fog when using windshield wipers.
  • Dial *FHP (*347) in emergency road situations.

Rush hour is usually between 7am and 9am in the morning, and 3:30pm–6:30pm in the evening, especially on highways such as the I-95, and I-595. Weekends can see traffic from 11am to 2pm. The other high-traffic areas are Downtown, Las Olas Boulevard, and near Port Everglades.

 

The Hertz rental car location is on the third level, to the left. Walk-ins – Personal vehicles may be parked in the Terminal One Parking Garage. Walk to Terminal One to the Consolidated Rental Facility. The opening hours are 5am to 2am. If you’re arriving at Terminal One, cross the catwalk on Level Two into the consolidated rental facility, and take the escalator to the Hertz counter on level three. If you’re in the other terminals, follow signs from the baggage claim area to the facility bus pick-up areas for transport to level three.
