  • Interstate 235 (I-235) serves Kansas as a north-south bypass spur route, travelling through western Wichita. It passes Dwight D. Eisenhower Airport and Sedgwick County Park.
  • Kansas Highway 96 (K-96) enters Wichita in the northwest of the city and runs alongside I-235, before joining US-50 in South Hutchinson.
  • Interstate 35 (I-35) travels through the south-east area of the city as the Kansas Turnpike. It links Wichita with Kansas City to the north east and Oklahoma City across the southern state line.

 

How to Get From Wichita to Kansas City

You can reach Kansas City in around three hours in your rental car from Downtown Wichita.

  1. Follow E 1st Street N and merge onto I-135 S.
  2. Take Exit 6A to merge onto US-400 E.
  3. Use the slip road to enter I-35 N/Kansas Turnpike.
  4. Follow this route for 77 miles until it becomes I-335 N.
  5. Continue on for another 50 miles to merge onto I-470 E.
  6. After six miles, merge onto I-70 E and follow this route into Kansas City.

 

How to Get From Wichita to Topeka

It takes little over two hours to drive from Wichita to Topeka in your car rental. Get onto the Kansas Turnpike and continue north for 134 miles. Take Exit 6 and follow Topeka Boulevard to S Kansas Avenue to reach central Topeka.
