Rent a car in Byron Bay

There’s never been a better time for a trip to Byron Bay.

Byron Bay is home to world-famous beaches, a gorgeous Hinterland region, and, in recent years, has become a firm favourite amongst the Hollywood elite. It’s not hard to see why this locality has become so popular; wild and rugged white-sanded beaches, a warm climate, and many cafes and restaurants throughout the town are popular with both domestic and international tourists.

As with anywhere in northern New South Wales, it’s best to have a car to get you from destination to destination. You’ll want to see everything this region offers, so a road trip or two might have a firm spot on your itinerary. Head to our Byron Bay Downtown Hertz location and speak to our friendly staff about your rental car options.

Indulge in the Local Offerings of Byron Bay

Byron Bay has cemented itself as somewhat of a food mecca in Australia.

Just a quick drive down the main high street of Byron Bay will show you why - there’s a different restaurant, cafe, or eatery on every corner. You could easily choose a different place to get your morning coffee each morning and still have plenty of options left at the end of your trip. We recommend trying out as many options as possible while you’re here.

Perhaps have a bite to eat at The Pass Cafe, a welcome reprieve after the morning hike to the Byron Bay Lighthouse. This cafe is nestled in the forest behind the Lighthouse Walk and is a firm favourite amongst tourists and locals alike. The best acai bowls are at The Top Shop, which regularly has queues out the door from first light. Another great option is the Byron Bay General Store, where the coffee is great, and the food is delicious.

Further afield is The Farm Byron Bay. It’s located a few miles away from the beach in the Hinterland. Expect to see Highland Cows, endless sunflowers, and miles of rich, green fields. Enjoy an hour or so checking out the farm before heading to the Three Blue Ducks for a bite to eat.

When light falls, the town comes even more alive. Buskers serenading diners as they stroll to their dinner reservation is a regular sight - just another highlight of what makes this town so special. Perhaps have dinner at The Mez Club, where you’ll feel like you’re in Greece from the moment you walk into the restaurant. A huge favourite is Rae’s at the beach - keep an eye out for a famous face or two while you’re here.

From the Beach to the Hinterland with Hertz

Byron Bay is a nature lover’s delight.

The beaches here are some of the best in Australia, with white sand, turquoise blue waters, and a rolling surf all year round. Head to a new beach every day until you find your favourite, from Wategos Beach, The Pass, Main Beach, Belongil Beach, and many more.

Byron Bay has an incredibly diverse landscape. You can spend your mornings watching the sunrise at the Byron Bay Lighthouse, the most easterly point of mainland Australia, before enjoying a morning swim at the beach and heading to the Hinterland for the afternoon.

The Hinterland is just a few moments away from the main town. Drive out and see just how magical it is for yourself, with beautiful hikes, waterfalls, and plenty of greenery on offer here. A highlight would definitely be Minyon Falls; a 100-metre drop of cascading water is simply magical any day of the week.

Byron Bay is truly a one-of-a-kind destination. Its versatility proves popular with tourists all year round, with many domestic visitors choosing to holiday here many times. We can’t wait to see you in Byron Bay for your Hertz adventure.

The Certification is valid until the expiry date of the China Driver's License. Both the Certification and the original China Driver’s License MUST be produced at the time of rental.

Digital Driver License

The Digital Driver Licence is legal for use across NSW & SA and is accepted by most businesses. However, it does not replace the plastic card and the official authorities recommend everyone still carry a physical card as a backup.

Fuel & Electrical Recharging Policy

Fuel is not included in your rental rate. Your vehicle will be provided with a full tank of fuel or if the tank is not full, we will provide you with credit for the missing fuel and you can decide how you wish to pay for the fuel you use during your rental. You have the following options:

Buy a full tank at the start …

  • Often referred to as our Fuel Purchase Option (FPO).
  • If you purchase a full tank of fuel from us at the start of your rental, you will not need to refill the tank before returning and will have nothing more to pay for fuel.
  • This is a good option for high kilometre journeys where you are likely to use a full tank.

Buy a half tank at the start….

  • It may be more convenient to pay for a half tank of fuel at the start of the rental and save time on refuelling by returning the vehicle with only a half a tank of fuel.
  • This is a good option for low kilometre journeys where you are more likely to use less fuel.
  •

FUEL PURCHASE OPTION (FPO)

We charge you at the start of your rental for a full tank of fuel at a price competitive with local fuel stations. You will have nothing more to pay to us for your fuel. Please note that we do not provide a refund for unused fuel.

HALF TANK OPTION

We charge you at the start of your rental for a half tank of fuel at a competitive price with local fuel stations and return with only half a tank of fuel. Please note that we do not provide a refund for unused fuel.

Return with a full tank …

  • Return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel purchased from a local fuel station.
  • This is a good option for low kilometre journeys.

IMPORTANT: Fuel gauges may still indicate that the tank is “full” many kilometres after it was last re-filled. To deal with this, we ask you to refill the tank within 15 km of the return location and bring your fuel receipt with you when returning the Vehicle. We ask you to present a copy of the fuel receipt to a Hertz employee or leave a copy in the Vehicle. If you do not do so, we reserve the right to apply a small charge – please ask at the counter for details.

…..or without refuelling

  • A good option if you are in a hurry, did not take FPO or a Half Tank of fuel and do not have time to refill the tank on return.

REFUELLING SERVICE CHARGE: We will charge you a price per litre to refill the tank. These prices are indicated on your Rental Agreement.

EV Battery Recharging Service Fee

You are liable for any reduction in battery charge percentage from when you picked up your EV to when you returned it (no refund will be provided if this figure is higher, upon return). If we are required to recharge the EV to return it to its battery departure level, we will charge you a price per kilo watt (kW), as detailed on your Rental Agreement.

EV Low Battery Recharging Service Fee

If you return the vehicle at 15% battery charge level or less, we will charge an additional recharging service fee, as detailed on your Rental Agreement.
