What is Personal Accident Insurance?

PAI insurance coverage protects you and your passengers in cases of accidental death, along with medical expenses incurred because of injury whilst driving a Hertz car rental. When you take out PAI with Hertz, it comes together with Personal Effects Coverage (PEC) as one broader insurance package.

The coverage can be claimed within 90 days of the accident, although exclusions will apply in the following cases:

• The cover can be rendered within 90 days, although exclusions will apply in the following cases:
• Cases of self-injury – i.e. suicide or suicide attempt whilst sane or insane
• Aircraft travel
• Engaging in or trying to cause an assault or a felony
• Accidents due to the influence of intoxicants, i.e., illegal drugs or alcohol
• An accident because of illegal street racing or vehicle testing
• Waging in war or any acts of war
• Doing an illegal profession
• Complications arising due to pregnancy or birth
• Replacement of glasses or an eye exam, unless an injury impairs vision.
• If the renter converts the rental vehicle, or if the insured renter violates the Rental Agreement at any time, the insurance will not cover them. If the rental vehicle is not returned to the Lessor by the return date or the extended return date, the renter is considered to have converted it.
