What is a Limited Loss Damage Waiver?

A Limited Loss Damage Waiver is an optional Hertz product that protects you from financial liability for any theft or damage to your Hertz rental up to $1000. This waiver can save you a lot of money especially when damage caused to the rental is not your fault. You won’t have to worry about filing a claim or paying extra expenses below $1000.

How is LLDW different from Loss Damage Waiver?

A Limited Loss Damage Waiver is pretty much the same as a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) in that they both cover the driver from financial liabilities resulting from but not limited to:

  • Collisions
  • Acts of nature
  • Rollover
  • Vandalism
  • Theft
  • Flood
  • Hail
  • Fire

The only difference between the two is that the Limited Loss Damage Waiver has a payment cap of up to $1000 for theft or damages, while the Loss Damage Waiver has no payment cap. Here’s a detailed summary of the two:

Limited Loss Damage Waiver (LLDW)

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)

Has a payment cap of $1000

No specified payment cap for damages

Covers theft and damages subject to the rental agreement’s terms and conditions.

More affordable for short-term rental agreements

More expensive than LDW, but suitable for long-term rental agreements.

Alternatively, you can go for Hertz’s insurance cover option which offers added protection for theft, damage and other third-party instances.

Factors to consider before purchasing LLDW?

You should always check all your coverage options first before collecting the keys to your rental. Doing so could save you a lot of money down the road, especially if you’re traveling somewhere with a higher likelihood of damage. If you’re looking to add a LLDW to your rental, here’s what to consider:

  • Determine how long you’ll be renting the car and what model you want to rent.
  • Check in with your personal insurance coverage and credit card benefits to see if they provide rental coverage.
  • At Hertz, we want you to make an informed decision on a coverage option that best suits your rental needs. That’s why we insist you read the terms and conditions of your rental agreement carefully to see whether the LLDW covers all incidents and accidents you’re looking to avoid.

Hertz’s customer service team is also available to answer any further questions you may have on the Limited Loss Damage Waiver.
