What Additional Documentation Do I Need to Rent from Hertz?

When renting a car here in the US, you will always need your United States or International Driver’s License. But when using a debit card, you will need to provide extra information before you can drive away in your rental.

Let's start with airport locations. To qualify for a Hertz rental with a debit card at Hertz airport locations you must provide:

• Proof of a return flight that matches up to the rental term dates.
• Two forms of personal identification.

To use your debit card to pay at an airport location, you also need one of the following:

• Another credit or debit card with your name on it for extra identification.
• Government-issued ID.
• Non-government-issued form of ID.

To qualify for a Hertz rental with a debit card at a corporate-owned Hertz Local Edition location you will also need:

• To have made your reservation 24 hours before the pickup date.
• A Corporate Discount Plan (CDP) number.

How Much Does Hertz Hold on a Debit Card?

If you don't know, large debit card transactions usually involve placing a 'hold' for a certain amount on your bank account. This means a certain amount of money is 'reserved' as a show of good faith in paying your final rental costs. When you pick up your rental, Hertz will put a hold on your bank account for the total price of your rental. You also need to pay a $500 security deposit.
