Parking and more in Belfast

The center of Belfast has many convenient parking lots. Renting a car from Belfast International Airport means your trip is in your own hands. Park and discover the city on foot, then explore further afield in your Belfast rental car in your own time.

Remember that when driving in the UK, you must drive on the left-hand side of the road and overtake on the right. All passengers must wear seatbelts and the use of cell phones while driving is illegal.

Speed limits vary by road type. The UK equivalent of a freeway is a motorway, and these have a top limit of 70mph. Within Belfast and other towns and villages, the maximum speed is 30mph.

Key Roads In Belfast

Hertz car rental at Belfast International Airport is 20 miles from the city center, near Antrim. It’s a 30-minute drive along the A57 and M2. Use the A2 to discover the Titanic Belfast, the city’s top attraction. Or, for a dose of greenery, follow the A12 and Tates Avenue to the Botanic Gardens.

How to get from Belfast to Giant’s Causeway

Base yourself in the city and explore everything Northern Ireland has to offer. A series of roads lead to every legendary attraction and charismatic city. A straight drive north on the A26 will take you to Giant’s Causeway. Northern Ireland’s most famous natural wonder is reachable in just over an hour.

The narrow coastal roads in this rural area will reward you with stunning views. A Belfast holiday rental car allows the freedom to stop at idyllic seaside towns and villages along the way.

How to get further afield

The A6 skirts the top of the stunning Lough Neagh. Here, lake-side relaxation or adrenaline-fueled watersports await. Continue along this route, and you’ll reach the walled city of Derry where you'll discover more Northern Irish history.

Renting a car from Belfast International Airport to venture a little further? Drive along the A1/M1 south, cross the border, and you’ll reach the capital of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin. This journey will take just over two hours.

A Quick Guide To Belfast

Northern Ireland is a compact nation. It’s a pleasure to explore the rugged coastline, emerald-green countryside, and craggy outcrops. The first stop once you collect your rental car from Belfast International Airport? Buzzing Belfast.

Bold Belfast

Head into Belfast and experience a city where the locals have a sharp sense of humor. A thriving food and drink scene takes over once the sun goes down.

A vast number of restaurants dotted across the capital make the most of its coastal location. Comforting seafood chowders and fresh shellfish feature on many menus. Mourne Seafood Bar is one of the best, where you can feast on local mussels, hake fillet, and spicy squid. Once you’ve had your fill, rub shoulders with the friendly locals. Visit a folk music venue and experience the famous Northern Irish charm.

While in the city, make time to visit Titanic Belfast. This award-winning visitor center tells the tragic tale of the famous ocean liner, built where the museum stands. Learn about the ship’s construction and travel through a recreation of Belfast’s shipyards.

The freshest air

Head out of the city in your BFS rental car to The Gobbins, along the east coast cliffs near Ballystrudder. Park up and enjoy this spectacular coastal walk. Walk along the rugged cliff face, through holes in the rocks, and into smuggler’s caves. Cross a daring swing bridge while the sea crashes below and see if you can spot local dolphins.

Take in the tranquil atmosphere of Lough Neagh. It's a short drive in your holiday rental car from Belfast International Airport. This huge freshwater lake is the perfect place for aquatic adventures. Try windsurfing and glide across the lake’s surface. Or, see the countryside from the water with a gentle paddle in a kayak. Take a serene woodland walk through Randalstown Forest on the lake’s shore. You may even come face to face with protected deer and wildfowl.

Uncover local legends

Drive north along the Antrim coast to discover the Giant’s Causeway. Here, mysterious basalt columns stand proud in the sea. Make your way down to the stones and climb this natural marvel or admire it from the clifftops. Locals will say the mythical giant Finn McCool created the Causeway. Legend says he hurled rocks into the sea to repel a Scottish rival.

Unsurprisingly Northern Ireland was chosen for many Game of Thrones filming locations. Experience them for yourself by driving through the atmospheric, tree-shrouded Dark Hedges Road. Golden sunlight casts shadows through gnarled old trees. This iconic avenue is the perfect place to stop off to take snaps. Ballintoy, a small fishing village on the coast, served as the backdrop for the Iron Islands and is a dramatic place to visit. Walk along the beach and see where the houses drop down dramatically to the harbor.

Hertz's Belfast International Airport car rental location is perfectly positioned for your adventures. Take in the best sights of Northern Ireland from behind the wheel of your Belfast holiday rental car. Discover the proud cities and wild countryside of this small but diverse nation.
