Driving In and Around Fremont

  • Fremont Boulevard runs through Fremont’s Central District. It leads from East Industrial through Irvington and ends near I-880 in Northgate. It’s a useful route if you’re heading to Alameda Creek Regional Trail or out of town on I-680 in your holiday car rental.
  • Interstate 880 (I-880), also known as the Nimitz Freeway, connects Fremont to Oakland and San Francisco to the north and San Jose south.
  • Interstate 680 (I-680) passes through eastern Fremont. It starts in Downtown San Jose, close to Reid-Hillview Airport, and curves east at Fremont to connect with Pleasanton, Walnut Creek and Vallejo.

How to Get From Fremont to Palo Alto

It takes less than a half hour to drive the 18 miles from Fremont to Palo Alto in Silicon Valley in your car rental.

  1. Leave the Hertz car rental lot at Fremont Boulevard, then turn left onto Decoto Road.
  2. Continue onto CA-84 W toll road and cross the San Francisco Bay.
  3. Use the left two lanes to take a left onto University Avenue.
  4. Follow this route into Palo Alto and turn left onto Lincoln Avenue to arrive.
     

How to Get From Fremont to Monterey Bay

Monterey, the hub of Monterey Bay, is a 90-minute drive when you rent a car from Fremont. Just head south on I-880 South, then take Exit 4B to continue south on US-101. Use Exit 336 to join CA-156 West, then merge onto CA-1, or Cabrillo Highway, towards Monterey.
