It took 30 years to carefully excavate the site, with the remains of 24 mammoths eventually unearthed, dating back some 68,000 years. Driving In and Around Waco

  • Austin Avenue (76710) is one of the city’s most popular streets for locals and visitors. You can park your rental car in Waco for free here, with a two-hour limit on weekdays from 8AM to 5PM.
  • 4th and Franklin (76710) is a city parking lot providing free parking for your Waco car rental. It’s connected to the Dr. Mae Jackson Development Center.
  • Baylor University (76706) Clifton Robinson Tower lot has approximately 450 spaces for visitors to the college. Simply park your Waco rental car here and start exploring.

 

  • Interstate 35 (I-35) is the main route passing right through Waco. You can drive from Waco in your rental car south to connect with Austin and then San Antonio. North it splits into two branches just past Hillsboro. I-35 W continues to Fort Worth, I-35 E to Dallas.
  • Loop 340 runs around the southern and eastern outskirts of Waco, intersecting with I-35 both to the north and south of the city.
  • State Highway 6 (SH 6) leads both northwest and southeast from Waco. The latter route will take you to the outskirts of Houston.

 

How To Get from Waco to Dallas

It will take between 90 minutes to two hours to drive north to Dallas in your Waco car rental:

  1. From West Waco Drive, join I-35 North/US-77 North
  2. Follow the I-35 North/US-77 North for around 33 miles.
  3. When the I-35 splits, take the right fork for I-35E for Dallas.
  4. Take Exit 427D for I-30E.

 

How To Get From Waco Regional Airport To Downtown Waco

The airport is around six miles northwest of Waco in your rental car –  a drive of 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. From Karl May Drive, turn right on to Airport Road. Take a right on to Lake Shore Drive and then a left for North 31st Street.
