Built in 1913 by Joseph A. Biedenharn – the first man to bottle Coca Cola – this house-turned-museum is set in lush, landscaped gardens.

Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Driving In and Around Monroe

  • Monroe Regional Airport (71212) offers both short- and long-term parking for your Monroe car rental and is open 24/7. You pay when leaving the lot by either cash or card. The first hour of the first day of short-term parking is free.
  • Pecanland Shopping Mall (71203) is Monroe’s largest mall and offers over 4,700 parking spaces for customers.
  • Interstate 20 (I-20) flows east to west through Monroe. East it leads past the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge to the border with Mississippi and then Jackson. Head west for Minden and then Shreveport.
  • US Route 165 (US 165) is a historic road running north to south through the center of Monroe. Go north to skirt Black Bayou Lake before heading northeast into Arkansas. Drive south on it for Alexandria.
  • US Route 80 (US 80) also runs east to west, following the route of the I-20 in the Monroe area and beyond.

How to Get From Monroe Regional Airport to Monroe

The airport is about a 6-mile drive east in your Monroe car rental from the city center:

  1. Leave the Hertz collection lot on Operations Rd.
  2. Turn left for Central Ave N.
  3. Go left onto Kansas Ln. After around a mile, left again on LA-594.
  4. Take a right turn for Garrett Rd.
  5. Right again to merge onto I-20 W, which takes you towards Monroe.
  6. Leave I-20 W at Exit 117C.

 

How to Get From Monroe to Shreveport

Shreveport and its clutch of casinos is just under 100 miles west of Monroe in your car rental, a drive that should take between 90 minutes and two hours. From Monroe, join I-20 W, which will take you all the way. Leave I-20 at Exit 19A and you'll have reached Shreveport.
