Quick tips for finding a fast charger

Outside of Tesla, there are several different networks of charging stations in the US. The Plugshare website lets you search multiple charging networks at once, filter by charging speed, and even use a trip planner.

When you see a list of chargers, the higher the kW, the faster the charge. We recommend you look for a charger in this order:

DC Fast Charger | 50-350 kW

20-60 minutes charge time to 80% full
Best if you plan around meals or short activity

AC Level 2 | 7-19 kW

4-10 hours charge time to 80% full
Best if you plan for overnight, workday, or day-long event

EVgo has a nationwide network of fast, reliable chargers, most often found in California, Texas, the Pacific Northwest, the Florida coast, the East Coast, Chicago, the Northeast, Detroit and the Washington D.C. metro area.

The EVgo app will guide first-time users through the charging process, and you can pay via the app as well.

Follow the instruction detailed on each charger once you arrive.

1. Download EVgo in the iOS App Store or Google Play.

2. Sign up and add your information in app.

3. Tap the Menu icon, and enter the promo code: HERTZ

4. Explore the app to find a charger near you.

When charging, first plug the connector in, tap the app to start a charge, stop your charge at the charger.

If you enroll a rental vehicle in EVgo Autocharge+, you must unenroll upon return of the vehicle. If drivers are still enrolled upon returning the rental vehicle, they are subject to all subsequent charges.

If you’re renting an electric vehicle on the West Coast, you will find hundreds of EVCS charging stations from San Diego to Vancouver, including fast chargers.

Hertz renters will be offered competitive non-member rates for charging, with EVCS offering three separate charging plans on a weekly subscription basis: ideal when you’re renting a car for a range of trips.

Find an EVCS charging station

EVCS has an app available and a map on the website. You can also search for EVCS charging stations using PlugShare, Apple Maps or Google Maps. You will need to download the app to use an EVCS charging station, although there is no commitment to become a member.

Users can opt for a pay-as-you-go service or sign up for a subscription to access better rates for regular charging. While the app requires you to use the chargers, you can opt to pay at the charging point via credit card rather than through the app.

With a White House goal to build a national network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers, even those with range anxiety can rent an EV with confidence.
