Weekly billing (Overview)

Renting a Tesla (Overview)

On the day you pick up your rental, we put a temporary pending authorization on your bank account for your upcoming weekly rental.

At the end of Week 1, a new pending authorization is put on your account for the upcoming Week 2, and then you’re billed separately for the Week 1 rental.

In the diagram below, the temporary pending authorizations are shown in yellow, and the final payments are shown in green:

Authorization vs. payment

With a temporary pending authorization, you can't access these funds, but they do NOT leave your account.

Note: Every financial institution handles the authorizations differently—some release the authorization after 1-2 days, some banks hold the money for weeks. Hertz does not decide how long these authorizations will last. Contact your bank with questions.

An authorization may show up as PENDING in your account, like this:

Whereas the final payment will show that the money has left your account:

With the upcoming week’s authorization and last week’s payment, you may need more money in your account than one week’s rental.

Your weekly rental receipt

After your first week’s payment clears, you can easily look up your weekly Hertz receipts. We recommend bookmarking that site for easy access. Let’s look at an example of a weekly receipt below:

This is an example of a weekly receipt of a driver who drives with Uber and rents a Tesla with Hertz. Let’s go through it one section at a time.

INITIAL CHARGES

This section outlines your weekly rental rate.

CHARGES ADDED DURING RENTAL

This section outlines additional products or protections you’ve purchased like Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) or Premium Roadside Service.

SERVICE CHARGES/TAXES

In the TESLA REBILL line item, you’ll see the total you spent on Tesla charging during that week, including Idle Fees.
