At many Hertz locations, debit cards issued under a VISA or MasterCard logo which draw funds directly from the cardholder’s account may be used to qualify for rental. However, prepaid or stored value cards which have a VISA or MasterCard logo are not accepted to qualify for rental. When a debit card is accepted as form of payment, at the start of the rental, two (2) forms of identification must be presented. Debit cards must have available funds for the estimated amount of the rental charges and any additional charges that may be incurred. Both debit cards and prepaid or stored value cards issued under a VISA or MasterCard logo may be used as a form of payment when you return the vehicle.

The credit scoring process performed through the services of Equifax are very similar to the type of credit checks that are done when a person applies for credit. This credit check is done at the rental location when you arrive.

Charge cards and debit cards must be in the renter's name. The renter's name must be embossed on the front of the card.

Hertz accepts American Express, MasterCard, Carte Blanche, Visa, Diners Club, Discover, Hertz Charge Card, JCB, Optima Amex, and some debit cards. Credit cards and debit/check cards must have available credit or available funds, for the estimated amount of rental charges and any additional charges that may be incurred. 

Note: tolls, traffic violations, citations, or other penalties are billed to your payment method on file as they are assessed by tolling agencies, authorities, and Hertz and may not be reflected on the weekly rental receipt during the week in which they occurred.  You are responsible for paying the charging authorities for all traffic violations, citations, tolls, including any fines for toll evasion, and other related fines, fees, and penalties assessed against You, Hertz or the Car during your rental. In order to avoid a processing fee in connection with a toll,  You must pay the toll in cash at the applicable toll plaza (where permitted) or You must make arrangements to create an account and pre-pay any applicable tolls, such as by setting up a toll account and pre-paying your local tolling agency online via platepass.com, or contacting the toll operator, by phone, or by mail. If you do not pay tolling authorities directly and/or you choose to use the toll transponder in the Car provided by Hertz , the payment card provided in connection with this rental and/or the deposit you paid in connection with Your rental or participation in the Uber Driver Program, will be charged $9.99 per usage day, plus applicable toll charges, taxes and fees. Tolling fees cannot be estimated in advance and are based on Your individual usage and driving patterns. You expressly authorize Hertz to charge your payment method on file for charges, taxes, and fees related to tolls, traffic violations, citations, or other penalties assessed against You or the Car during your rental that it receives that you do not pay for directly or that Hertz otherwise incurs as a result of Your use of the Car. These amounts will be billed to your payment method on file with Your weekly payment charges as they are processed by tolling agencies and authorities and may not be reflected on the weekly rental receipt during the week in which they occurred.
