An acceptable physical valid driver's license issued from your country of residence and a major credit/debit card in the same name must be presented at the time of rental. We do not accept paper copies or digital copies of driver's license. We shall accept renewals made online after expiration date on driver's license, but the main driver must have the original expired driver's license as well.
The driver's license must be valid for the entire rental period and must have been held a minimum of 2 years. If the driver's license is not issued in the United States and United States territories and in a language other than English, an International Driver's Permit may be required. In all cases, a valid driver's license issued from your home country must be provided, whether or not you possess an International Driver's Permit. You will not be allowed to rent a Hertz vehicle with only an International Driver's Permit.
By law in St. Thomas, drivers who do not have United States driver's license are required to purchase a driver's permit valid for 30 days at Bureau of Motor Vehicle for USD 15.00. You can check with the location if they have driver's permit available to sell for USD 20.00 or alternatively from Monday to Friday we can take you to the Bureau of Motor Vehicle office where you can purchase the permit.
Driver's licences issued by the People's Republic of China may be accepted provided that the you present an official Hertz Certification form. Hertz China will issue this form on Hertz notepaper and will incorporate the Hertz China Corporate seal. A scanned copy of the original licence will appear on the Certification form. The Certification form is valid until the expiry date of the Driver's Licence. BOTH the Certification and the original licence MUST be produced at the time of rental.
For driver's licences issued in Vietnam, you will need to present the original licence together with an authorized translation issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport. If both documents are presented at time of rental these licences are acceptable worldwide.
