  • US Route 101 (US 101), also known as the Ventura Freeway, connects Van Nuys to downtown Los Angeles. It passes the iconic Griffith Observatory and is also a popular road for California road trips.

 

How to Get From Van Nuys Airport by Rental Car to the Hollywood Sign

It takes about 35 minutes to drive the 20 miles from Van Nuys Airport car rental lot to the iconic Hollywood Sign.

  1. Leave the car rental parking lot at Van Nuys Airport, then head east on Saticoy Street.
  2. Turn right on to Haskell Avenue. At the lights, join San Diego Freeway (I-405), heading south.
  3. Keep right to take exit 63B, then stay left to follow the loop east. Join I-101 and follow signs for downtown Los Angeles.
  4. Stay on the Ventura Freeway as it becomes CA-134, then use exit 5B to merge on to I-5.
  5. Take the second right to join Los Feliz Boulevard, make a right on to Hillhurst Avenue and turn right again on to N Vermont Avenue.
  6. Follow this road as it snakes upward to the parking lot just off W Observatory Road.

 

How to Get From Van Nuys by Rental Car to Downtown LA

Van Nuys is about a 30-minute in your car rental drive from downtown Los Angeles, depending on traffic conditions. Just get on the Hollywood Freeway (CA-170), driving south to join US 101. Take exit 2B to join Los Angeles Street.
