Chichén Itzá

There are plenty of places to park your Cancun rental car, especially near popular tourist locations.

Parking lots: You can park your Cancun rental car for free in some parking lots. Other sites can be found in shopping malls, which can cost from 30 pesos per hour.

Street parking: Street parking is allowed in some areas, but it can be tricky in busy areas. Only park on white sidewalks or white spots. Avoid parking on a sidewalk that is marked yellow or red. 


There are three main routes into and out of Cancun in your rental car:

· Highway 180: The most important highway that connects Cancun to Texas at the Mexican border.

· Highway 307: Follows the Yucatan Peninsula along the east coast to Chetumal, and also links to Cancun airport.

· Highway 305D: A toll road that heads from south to east, passing the coast of Playa del Carmen.


It takes just under 30 minutes to reach the city center in your Cancun airport car rental:

  1. Leave the parking lot and head north-west on Carretera a Aeropuerto Cancún.
  2. Take the slip road onto Carretera Cancun - Tulum/Chetumal-Cancun/México 307.
  3. Continue straight to stay on Carretera Cancun - Tulum/México 307.
  4. At the roundabout, take the second exit and stay on Carretera Cancun - Tulum/México 307.
