At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid national driver's license which has been held for at least 12 months.
For all Non-European Union renters an International Driver's Permit (IDP) is recommended.
The IDP translates the national licence into various languages and is on its own, without the national licence, not acceptable.
Hertz must be able to read the renter's driver's license and decipher its validity. If the renter has a driver's license but does not have an International Driver's Permit (IDP) and Hertz cannot interpret language/signs etc., and therefore cannot decipher the validity, this driver will be rejected.
Note: There are a few EU countries where Hertz cannot decipher the driver's license, for example, the Greek driver's license. Hertz does not accept this driver's license without an IDP.
Danish digital driver's licenses: Danish digital driver's licenses are accepted and approved when driving in Denmark. If driving outside of Denmark, a physical driver's license must be brought. This is solely the renter's own responsibility.
Foreign digital driver's licenses: Foreign digital driver's licenses are only accepted when driving in Denmark with a physical IDP. If driving outside of Denmark, a physical driver's license must be brought. This is solely the renter's own responsibility.
Driver's licences issued by the People's Republic of China may be accepted provided you present an official Hertz Certification form. Hertz China will issue this form on Hertz notepaper and will incorporate the Hertz China Corporate seal. A scanned copy of the original licence will appear on the Certification form. The Certification form is valid until the expiry date of the Driver's Licence. BOTH the Certification and the original licence MUST be produced at the time of rental.
If you hold a Driver's Licence issued in Vietnam, you need to present the original licence together with an authorised translation issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport. If both documents are presented at time of rental these licences are acceptable worldwide.
