Paraburdoo Airport

Rent a car in Paraburdoo

Tucked away in the remote outback of Western Australia, the small community of Paraburdoo invites you to experience a slice of real Australia. Home to outstanding natural scenery, breathtaking national parks, a rich culture, and deep connection to country, Paraburdoo is the kind of destination that leaves a lasting impression. If you’re ready to head off the beaten track and explore the friendly communities and stunning scenery of the Pilbara, read on to discover all the best that this captivating region has to offer.

Community Spirit in The Heart of the Outback

When visiting a destination this remote, chances are you’re arriving by air - Paraburdoo Airport is the entry point for the Pilbara region including the outback communities of Paraburdoo and Tom Price, as well as the spectacular Karijini National Park. Hertz Paraburdoo Airport is conveniently located right in the terminal, which makes picking up your set of wheels an absolute breeze - you’ll be ready to hit the road in no time.

Once you’ve settled into your Hertz rental car, make your way into the township of Paraburdoo, just a 10-minute drive away. Paraburdoo is a unique town - it’s existence only began in the 1970’s as a purpose-built mining community, which has since been handed back to the local shire. No longer just for miners, the town has grown into a friendly, close-knit, and incredibly resilient community.

On your drive into town, keep an eye out for the Resilience Sculpture, an impressive sculpture that stands alone against the dramatic backdrop of rusty rock outcrops. Created by the local community as a statement piece, this unique public art pays homage to the region’s strong ties to the mining industry, the Pilbara locals, the region’s rich indigenous culture as well as the unique beauty of the natural landscape and the spirit of regional communities. While you may be eager to get to the next part of your getaway, we recommend making a stop here. Take a moment to pause and admire the intricate details of its unique metal construction and read fascinating stories from the local community.

The impressiveness of the Resilience Sculpture is a great reason to make the trek into Paraburdoo; and the town, while small, has all the amenities you need to keep you stocked up for your travels around the Pilbara including a supermarket, specialty shops and a selection of local eateries. The allure of Paraburdoo however has never been the town itself, but its location and spectacular natural surroundings, which are known to be some of the most dramatic landscapes in Western Australia. Just outside of town, Kelly’s Pool is a popular local spot for waterside picnics and relaxation. Another hidden gem of Paraburdoo is Radio Hill Lookout, a 15-minute drive out of town. You won’t find this spot on any map, but the panoramic views from here are truly breathtaking. Our tip - save this spot for sunset and watch the colours of the outback deepen as the golden afternoon light brings out the rich, vibrant colours of the surrounding landscape.

Exploring The Inland Pilbara with Hertz

One hour’s drive north is the outback town of Tom Price, which, in contrast to Paraburdoo, is a charming town with a relaxed country town atmosphere. Its attractive tree-lined streets, beautiful gardens, modern facilities, and impressive purpose-built visitors centre make it a welcoming town nestled amongst spectacular gorges and natural scenery. Fun fact - Tom Price is the highest town in Western Australia. Don’t miss out on a tour of Mount Tom Price iron ore mine, one of the few Pilbara mines to offer tours to the public. Home to one of the world’s richest iron ore deposits, this comprehensive mine tour is a must-do when visiting the Pilbara.

Of course, the highlight of the region and drawcard for visitors from across Australia is the spectacular Karijini National Park, located one hour’s drive west of Tom Price and easily accessible in your Hertz rental car. Home to deep craggy gorges, towering canyons, dramatic waterfalls and emerald waterholes, this outback oasis will leave you awestruck. You’ll find everything here from leisurely loops to vigorous day walks, kayaking tours, and plenty of swimming holes to cool off and seek refuge from the outback heat.

Whether you’re here to connect with nature, embrace the small-town community spirit of the outback or explore a lesser-seen side of the country, Paraburdoo and the Pilbara is a captivating destination that is full of surprises and raw natural beauty. However, you choose to do the Pilbara, Hertz Paraburdoo Airport will get you there.

Fuel & Electrical Recharging Policy

Fuel is not included in your rental rate. Your vehicle will be provided with a full tank of fuel or if the tank is not full, we will provide you with credit for the missing fuel and you can decide how you wish to pay for the fuel you use during your rental. You have the following options:

Buy a full tank at the start …

  • Often referred to as our Fuel Purchase Option (FPO).
  • If you purchase a full tank of fuel from us at the start of your rental, you will not need to refill the tank before returning and will have nothing more to pay for fuel.
  • This is a good option for high kilometre journeys where you are likely to use a full tank.

Buy a half tank at the start….

  • It may be more convenient to pay for a half tank of fuel at the start of the rental and save time on refuelling by returning the vehicle with only a half a tank of fuel.
  • This is a good option for low kilometre journeys where you are more likely to use less fuel.
  •

FUEL PURCHASE OPTION (FPO)

We charge you at the start of your rental for a full tank of fuel at a price competitive with local fuel stations. You will have nothing more to pay to us for your fuel. Please note that we do not provide a refund for unused fuel.

HALF TANK OPTION

We charge you at the start of your rental for a half tank of fuel at a competitive price with local fuel stations and return with only half a tank of fuel. Please note that we do not provide a refund for unused fuel.

Return with a full tank …

  • Return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel purchased from a local fuel station.
  • This is a good option for low kilometre journeys.

IMPORTANT: Fuel gauges may still indicate that the tank is “full” many kilometres after it was last re-filled. To deal with this, we ask you to refill the tank within 15 km of the return location and bring your fuel receipt with you when returning the Vehicle. We ask you to present a copy of the fuel receipt to a Hertz employee or leave a copy in the Vehicle. If you do not do so, we reserve the right to apply a small charge – please ask at the counter for details.

…..or without refuelling

  • A good option if you are in a hurry, did not take FPO or a Half Tank of fuel and do not have time to refill the tank on return.

REFUELLING SERVICE CHARGE: We will charge you a price per litre to refill the tank. These prices are indicated on your Rental Agreement.

EV Battery Recharging Service Fee

You are liable for any reduction in battery charge percentage from when you picked up your EV to when you returned it (no refund will be provided if this figure is higher, upon return). If we are required to recharge the EV to return it to its battery departure level, we will charge you a price per kilo watt (kW), as detailed on your Rental Agreement.

EV Low Battery Recharging Service Fee

If you return the vehicle at 15% battery charge level or less, we will charge an additional recharging service fee, as detailed on your Rental Agreement.
