What is Personal Effects Coverage?

Personal Effects Coverage is a form of insurance coverage that protects your personal belongings from loss or damage while on the road in your rental car. It is included in our Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) offering as a combined package only. Benefits include

  • Easy to file a claim.
  • No need to buy additional cover.
  • PEC pays out in addition to any other insurance policy you may have including house and contents insurance.

From that essential cell phone to a suitcase of luggage, if your items are lost or damaged you can make a claim. If anything is lost due to theft, you’ll need to report this to local law enforcement before submitting your claim.

Claims of up to $1,800 ($1,500 in the State of New York) can be made per rental period and coverage only applies to immediate family who are permanent members of your household. Non-family members are not covered.

It’s important to note that some personal items are not covered, including but not limited to:

  • Contact lenses, artificial teeth and prosthetic limbs
  • Animals
  • Household furniture
  • Currency, coins, deeds, bullions, tickets or documents
  • Motorcycles, boats, motors or other automobiles and their equipment
  • GPS equipment, guns or radar protectors
  • Merchandise for sale.

How much does Personal Effects Coverage cost?
