So you’ve chosen your Hertz rental for your next adventure. Now it’s time to work out your options for refueling before returning your rental car. We know it can be difficult to judge how much fuel you might use for your trip, so we’ve outlined our Hertz refueling options to help you plan ahead.
Hertz vehicles are typically provided to you with a full tank of fuel - the exact level will be made known to you upon signing the rental agreement. However, when returning your vehicle at the end of the rental period, there are three options for refueling to consider:
Simply return your rental vehicle and we’ll refuel it. Please note that you will be charged a Hertz refuel service fee in line with the provided service. The cost of the fuel will be calculated by taking an average of the retail fuel price within the local area. The fuel price is updated regularly to reflect any local changes. You will be charged extra for any taxes or concession fees if they apply.
You may choose to purchase a full tank of fuel at pump price. This is known as the Fuel Purchase Option (FPO). The fuel purchased is at a competitive price and there are no further fees. This means that you can return the car at any fuel level.
Please note that you will not be refunded for any unused fuel at the point of returning your rental car. You will only be refunded for unused fuel if you have traveled 75 miles or less. Please check the availability of FPO at the time of pickup of the car.
If you choose this option, we recommend refueling at a gas station near to the Hertz location, so your tank is at the same level you started with. If the rental vehicle needs extra refueling after you’ve returned it, you will be charged for fuel at a local rate.
Please note that if you choose to refuel the car yourself, the car must be returned with the same level of fuel that you began with. If we have to refuel, you will be charged for the refueling and may incur an additional Hertz refueling service fee.
Fuel costs are not included in Hertz rental rates. Hertz vehicles are usually rented out with a full tank of gas and should be returned in the same condition. If the vehicle is returned with less than a full tank, a local refueling charge will be applied.
However, please note that if you have chosen the Fuel Purchase Option, you may return the vehicle with any fuel level and you will not incur any further charges.
