Boston Car Rental FAQs

You can park your rental car in and around Boston’s parking metered streets. If you’re after garages, Back Bay and Downtown have many located near attractions such as Skywalk Observatory or Fenway Park.


The two main roads in and around Boston are the Interstate 90 (I-90 or Massachusetts Turnpike) – connecting Boston to the rest of Massachusetts and into the state of New York. And Interstate 93 (I-93), that runs through most of New England, connecting Boston to New Hampshire and Vermont.


Drive 15 minutes from Boston Logan Airport to Fenway Park by exiting onto Jeffries Street. Then follow I-90 West to I-93 North. Take Exit 26 to Storrow Drive, then MA-28 S. Exit towards Fenway, continue via Charlesgate and Boylston Street. Turn right on Ipswich Street, then left on Van Ness Street.


Top Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Boston

  • Cell Phones: 18 years old to use mobile/device hands-free.
  • Age to rent a car:  21+ years. Rental companies can put restrictions or charge a higher price for drivers under the age of 25. 
  • Seat belts: Driver and all passengers are required to always wear a seatbelt in the vehicle. Children below eight years old or shorter than 57 inches must be strapped in.
  • Headlights: Headlights need to be on half an hour before sunrise and after sunset to improve visibility. You need to turn your headlights on when it’s fog/misting even if you have your windshield wipers on.
  • Carpool/HOV Lanes: Boston has HOV lanes on highways designated for vehicles with two or more passengers.
 

As a major metropolitan area, Boston speed limits differ depending on which area of the city you’re driving through. However, the default driving speed is 25mph.
