  • The Standard Parking lot at 553 Washington Street (14203) is an open lot, open weekdays. Payment is by cash only.
  • Street parking is payable by meter throughout Buffalo for your car rental, from Monday to Saturday. Parking is usually free in the city on Sundays.

 

The traffic in Buffalo usually picks up in the morning between 7am and 9am. The evening rush hour often begins around 4pm, calming just after 6pm. Try and schedule your travel in Buffalo outside these times, for quicker journeys in your rental car.

 

  • New York State Route 5 enters the city through Lackawanna and connects Cheektowaga with Niagara Falls, passing through the city. It forms one of the main streets in Buffalo.
  • Interstate 190 connects New York State with Canada. It is one of the only interstates to reach the US-Canada border. It bisects Downtown Buffalo.
  • New York State Route 198 connects Interstate 90 to the Kensington Expressway and the Black Rock neighborhood on the city’s east side. The highway stays entirely with the city of Buffalo.

 

How to Get From Buffalo to Niagara Falls in Your Rental Car

The 20-mile journey from Buffalo to see Niagara Falls, near the US/Canada border, takes around 25 minutes in your rental car, depending on traffic.

  1. Leave Buffalo city center in your rental car on the I-190 North.
  2. Stay on this route for around 15 miles, crossing the South Grand Island Bridge.
  3. Eventually, cross the North Grand Island Bridge.
  4. Take exit 21 to enter the Niagara Scenic Parkway.
  5. When you reach the roundabout, take the first exit.
  6. Turn left onto Rainbow Boulevard.
  7. Continue until you reach the Niagara Falls USA Official Visitor Center.
