  • Grid layout: When driving your rental car in Indianapolis, you’ll find that the city is laid out in a straightforward grid pattern and is simple to navigate. The Indianapolis Memorial Highway forms a beltway around the center in a suitably square shape (this is also known as Interstate 465, or I-465).
  • Rush hour: Rush hour is typically 7am to 9am and 4:30pm until 7pm on weekdays. The city is at its busiest around Memorial Day when the Indy 500 race is usually held, but congestion is generally rare.
  • Roundabouts: These are a common feature of driving in Indiana and you’ll encounter them in Indianapolis. Pay extra attention to signs and lane markings if you are new to them.
  • On-street parking: As well as having plenty of parking garages across the city, there are many on-street parking options for your Indianapolis rental car, too. While most are metered, some may be free on Sundays.
  • Speed limits: In Indiana, the maximum speed limit is 70mph for rural freeways and on interstates. That drops to 65mph on urban freeways and 30mph in residential zones. Always check the signs as these may vary.

Nearby destinations: Louisville, Kentucky is around two hours south if you take the I-65, while Cincinnati, Ohio is reachable via the I-74 within a similar time frame. If you are traveling on to Illinois, the state lies around a three-hours drive to the west.
