Driving In and Around Harrisburg

  • Chestnut St. Garage (17101) is open seven days a week and has over 1,000 spaces for your holiday car rental. You can find it across from the Amtrak Station, near to Market Street.
  • Locust St. Garage (17101) is open weekdays and there are more than 600 spaces available for your Harrisburg car rental. The garage is close to the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex in downtown.

Like most state capitols, Harrisburg is a key commuter city, so weekday traffic can build up around rush hour. This is usually between 6am and 9am, then 3pm till 6pm, Monday to Friday.

  • Interstate 81 (I-81) is a major highway, which crosses multiple states, from New York to Tennessee. It cuts across the north of Harrisburg towards Wilkes-Barre in the north-east and Michaux State Forest to the south-west.
  • Interstate 76 (I-76) runs parallel to I-81 on Harrisburg’s south. Join this to reach Harrisburg Airport and Philadelphia to the east and Pittsburgh to the west.
  • U.S. Route 22 loops around Harrisburg’s north-east center, and follows the Susquehanna River north, past Wildwood Park. You can also use this route to merge onto the I-81.

How to Get From Harrisburg to York

The historical city of York is just 26 miles from central Harrisburg, taking around 30 minutes to drive in your holiday rental car. Simply leave the city via the Capital Beltway and take the I-83 South to reach the city center.

 

How to Get From Harrisburg to Philadelphia

For a longer road trip, Philadelphia is just over 100 miles from Harrisburg via the I-76 East. You can reach Pennsylvania’s largest city, known as “the City of Brotherly Love”, in less than two hours in your holiday car rental when you take I-76 East.
