Driving In and Around Hayden

  • Yampa Valley Airport (81639) has both long and short-term parking, as well as our holiday rental car pick-up and drop-off lot.
  • The Upper Knoll Lot (80487) is one of two free parking lots with direct access to Steamboat Springs Ski Resort. Once you’ve parked your Hayden car rental, it's just a short walk to the base of Mount Werner.
  • East Cross Mountain (81640) is one of the main campgrounds within Yampa River State Park which has its own parking facilities.

 

  • US Route 40 (US 40) cuts through North Colorado’s mountain ranges, along Hayden’s center. Use this route to reach Steamboat Springs to the east or Yampa River State Park to the west.
  • State Highway 13 (CO-13) runs north to south on Hayden’s west. It goes through Craig before heading south to join the I-70.
  • County Road 37 starts in Hayden and heads south past Yampa Valley Regional Airport. It follows Sage Creek River through Hillberry Mountain Peak.

 

How to Get From Hayden to Elkhead Reservoir State Park

It takes around 25 minutes to drive the 18 miles from Hayden to Elkhead Reservoir State Park in your Hayden car rental:

  1. Leave the holiday car rental parking lot at Yampa Valley Airport.
  2. Join County Road 51A and head northwest towards Hayden.
  3. At the end of the road, turn left onto US 40 West.
  4. Stay on this route for around 12 miles, then take a sharp right to join Country Road 29.
  5. After three miles, make a right turn onto Country Road 28 to reach the state park.

 

How to Get From Hayden to Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs is about a 30-minute drive from our Hayden car rental office. Just head north to reach the US 40, then follow this east for approximately 21 miles to arrive at the resort city.
