Plains Art Museum

If modern art is your thing, then the Plains Art Museum offers plenty – including a huge focus on local Native American art. The largest art museum in North Dakota and housed in a renovated harvester’s warehouse, they also offer classes allowing you to get ‘hands-on’ with painting and sculpture. There are parking lots to the south and west side of the museum, where you can leave your Fargo car rental for free while you visit.

Fargo Air Museum

Located near Hector Airport, this is a place for both air fanatics and the merely curious alike. Incredible aviation history is on offer from the days of The Wright Brothers to the sleek modern aircraft of today. With most of the superbly preserved and lovingly restored – and with planes still able to take to the air, the museum is not to be missed. Plus, parking for your Fargo rental car is included in your admission fee.

Hjemkomst Center

In the loop of the Red River to the northeast of Fargo, you can find unique examples of Norwegian heritage on display at the Hjemkomst. Meaning ‘homecoming’, the museum can be found in neighboring Moorhead and boasts a full Viking collection. Events like their Midwest Viking Festival provide family entertainment and education in equal measure.

Driving In and Around Fargo

  • On-street parking is available throughout Fargo for your rental car.
  • Roberts Commons Garage (58102) with charging for electric vehicles, this lot is located Downtown close to restaurants and the Plains Art Museum.
  • Island Park Ramp (58103) has 400 spaces and is ideally placed for a trip across the border to Woodlawn Park in Minnesota.
  • Interstate 29 (I-29) runs through Fargo heading North to Grand Forks along the border with Minnesota, and south to Omaha and Kansas City.
  • Interstate 94 (I-94) the route enters Eastbound from Montana, passing to the south of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and heads into Minnesota.
  • U.S. Highway 75 (U.S. 75) runs through Fargo, heading north toward Winnipeg in Canada and south to Omaha. Route 75 can even take you all the way south to Texas.

How to Get From Fargo to Grand Forks

It takes just over an hour to drive the 80 miles north to Grand Forks when you rent a car from Fargo.

  1. Leave the car rental car park at Main Avenue and get on I-29 North/US-81 North.
  2. Follow I-29 North/US-81 North to Demers Avenue in Grand Forks.
  3. Take exit 140 from I-29 North/US-81 North.
  4. Follow Demers Avenue to North 4th Street.

 

How to Get From Fargo to Headwaters Golf Club, Park Rapids

Hop in your Fargo rental car and follow 1st Avenue North to US-10 East/Center Avenue in Moorhead. Continue on US-10 East to MN-34 East in Detroit Lakes and then follow MN34 East to County Road 103 in Todd Township.
