Driving In and Around Kahului

  • Hana Highway (Routes 36 and 360), one of the most famous roads in Hawaii, takes you all the way along the north and east coasts from Kahului to Hana in east Maui.
  • Piilani Highway (HI-31) can be reached using Highway 37 from Kahului. Also known as the back road to Hana, this meandering scenic route loops all the way around the southern coast of the island.

How to Get From Kahului to Lahaina

It takes less than 45 minutes to drive the 23 miles from Kahului to Lahaina with your business or holiday rental car.

  1. Leave central Kahului via W Kamehameha Avenue.
  2. Turn right onto S Puuene Avenue.
  3. Take a right onto HI-380 for five miles.
  4. Turn left onto HI-30 S for 11 miles.
  5. Continue on HI-3000, past Launiupoko Beach Park.
  6. Turn left onto Hokiokio Place, then right onto HI-30 W.
  7. Continue until you reach Papalaua Street in Lahaina.
  8. Another two-minute drive will get you to Front Street.

 

How to Get From Kahului to Wailuku

Wailuku is around a 10-minute drive from Kahului with a Hertz car rental. From Kane Street in Kahului, turn left onto Highway 32 West / West Kaahumanu Avenue and follow the road for two miles. Turn right onto Market Street, then left onto Kahawai Street to reach central Wailuku.
