Hertz Car Rental At London Stansted Airport (STN)

Reserve a car rental at London Stansted Airport and explore the English capital.

Its excellent location close to the M11 motorway – the UK equivalent of a main highway – means you can also travel north towards Cambridge and other attractions in the east of the country.

Whether you’re landing at Stansted Airport for business or a holiday, renting a car is the ideal way to get around. Our quick and easy rental process means you’ll soon be on the road ready for the next step of your journey.

Driving In and Around London

As you’d expect from one of the UK’s busiest airports, renting a car at Stansted Airport offers excellent road connections to the surrounding area. It’s situated just off the M11 motorway, which leads directly south into London.

The M11 also connects to the M25, sometimes known as the London Orbital Motorway, which circles the city and provides easy access to destinations such as Watford and St Albans. From these areas north of London it is possible to join the M1, the main route that runs from the south of England to the center of the country and cities in the north.

If you’re driving into central London, you’ll find some areas of the city are covered by a congestion charge which also extends to rental vehicles. The charge applies from Monday to Friday and covers most areas of the center. For more details, visit the Transport for London website.

Outside London, there are many other destinations within reach with a rental car from Stansted Airport. The M11 leads north from the airport towards the city of Cambridge, home to many museums, galleries and historic college buildings.

From Cambridge, you can drive along the A11 to reach the famous cathedral city of Norwich, or head towards the coast to reach seaside towns such as Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.

If you’re traveling south with your car rental at Stansted Airport, you’ll find cities such as Brighton around 100 miles away. The port of Dover, which provides ferry links over the sea to France, is also just 100 miles from Stansted if you follow the M11 south onto the M25 and join the M20.

A Quick Guide to London

Ideally placed for exploring London and south-east England, Stansted is a great way to begin your journey in the UK. You’ll find major cities and beautiful countryside within easy reach, and with an airport rental car, you can set your itinerary to explore at your own pace.

Capital Culture

Without a doubt, the main attraction on Stansted’s doorstep is the UK capital, London. There are so many things to see and do that it’s impossible to fit them all into one trip, but many visitors head straight for the central area around the south bank of the Thames near Westminster Bridge. A car rental at Stansted Airport lets you avoid the hustle and bustle of the London underground. Hop in at the airport and pique your wanderlust from the get-go.

Here you’ll find the iconic London Eye, an enormous Ferris wheel constructed to welcome the new millennium.

Initially intended to be a temporary structure, it proved so popular that it has become a permanent fixture of the city skyline. Reserve tickets for one of its pods and you’ll be able to enjoy incredible views of London, including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

From the London Eye, it’s just a short journey along the riverbank to the Tower of London, a former fortress and prison that is still home to the Crown Jewels and the ceremonial guards known as ;Beefeaters. Guided tours are available, and if you’re lucky you might even see the famous ravens that live at the tower. Legend has it that if the ravens ever leave, the whole kingdom will fall.

Garden Getaway

With a Stansted Airport car rental, it’s also possible to escape the crowds and visit some attractions near the outskirts of London. Just a short drive away from the center you’ll find Kew Gardens, London’s biggest UNESCO World Heritage site and home to an incredible collection of flowers, plants and woodlands.

It’s the perfect way to enjoy some peace without leaving the city. The beautiful centerpiece is Temperate House, the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse that first opened in the 1800s and reopened after a five-year restoration project in 2018.

This structure shelters many incredible trees and plants, including some of the world’s rarest and most threatened species, some of which are extinct in the wild. It’s possible to reserve tickets for Kew Gardens online and there are several car parks close to the site, making it an excellent destination to visit by car. Renting a car from Stansted Airport means you can skip the taxis, buses and trains. You’re in full control with a Hertz ride all to yourself.

A Historic Gem

With a rental car from Stansted, it’s also possible to visit many other excellent destinations around the south and east of England. Just 30 miles north of the airport you’ll find Cambridge, a historic city on the River Cam that is famous for its architecture, particularly its college buildings.

Head to the Fitzwilliam Museum where you will find an impressive collection of art and antiquities, from ancient armor to Renaissance paintings. It’s also possible to take a tour of some of the colleges, where you can learn all about their fascinating history and beautiful architecture.

For a relaxing afternoon, visit the river where you’ll find boat tours available and even the option to rent your own punt, offering a unique way to see the sights. Cambridge is just one of the destinations within easy reach when you collect your rental car at Stansted Airport.
