Hertz Car Rental At Lanzarote Airport (ACE)

Rent a car at Lanzarote Airport with Hertz and explore this beautiful Canary Island at your leisure. With its spectacular volcanic landscape and beautifully warm climate, Lanzarote is the perfect place for a vacation, any time of year. While most of its Canary Island neighbors have only black volcanic sand beaches, Lanzarote is home to some golden stretches of coastline and is also a hugely popular destination for watersports.

Lanzarote is among the largest of the Canary Islands, behind Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. At just over 326 square miles, you’ll still find all of its beaches and other attractions are easily accessible when you rent a car at Lanzarote Airport.

Our Hertz collection point is easily accessible within Lanzarote Airport, so you can pick up your car as soon as your flight lands. And with our Hertz best price guarantee, you’re sure to get a great deal on your car rental at Lanzarote Airport.

Driving In And Around Lanzarote

Lanzarote Airport is located to the south of the island, with excellent road links to the capital Arrecife and many other destinations. To reach Arrecife, it’s just over three miles along the LZ-2 highway from the Lanzarote Airport car rental desk. This is one of the main roads on the island and runs all the way down to Playa Blanca, the southern-most town on the island.

Also accessible via this route from car rental at Lanzarote Airport is the secluded sand beach at Playa Quemada, a family favorite that’s home to serenely calm waters and dotted with attractive coves. The island’s national park, Timanfaya, is also just a 30-minute drive from the airport along the LZ-2.

For destinations on the north coast of the island, you can head from Arrecife along the LZ-1 highway, and find Jameos Del Agua, artist and architect César Manrique’s unique resort created around a series of lava caves.

The rules for driving when you rent a car at Lanzarote Airport are the same as the rest of Spain – you drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left. Driving around the island is an enjoyable experience thanks to its scenic routes and well-maintained roads.

Speed limits are usually signposted, but expect a maximum speed of 30mph in urban areas and 75mph on highways. If you notice a solid white line on the road this cannot be crossed, either for overtaking or turning on to another road.

Parking is available at most of the resorts around the island, and it’s usually free. In the capital Arrecife and in a few other busy areas such as Puerto del Carmen you will find a pay and display system in place where you will need to purchase a ticket to park.

A Quick Guide To Lanzarote

Lanzarote is perhaps most famous for its beaches but plan your road trip well and you’ll find much more to explore, from its cosmopolitan capital Arrecife to the rocky landscapes of Timanfaya National Park. All of this and more is easily accessible when you rent a car from Lanzarote Airport.

Like the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote was formed from a series of volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. But unlike its island neighbors, it has only a few black volcanic sand beaches – much of its coast is covered by golden sands.

Some of the best beaches on the island can be found at Playa Blanca on the south coast, around 20 miles from the airport. Once a small fishing village, this resort has undergone a lot of development in recent years, but it retains much of its tranquil charm. When you rent a car from Lanzarote Airport, you can reach Playa Blanca in around half an hour.

The relaxing atmosphere here makes it the perfect spot for families, couples or solo travelers ready to soak up the sun. From its beautiful promenade you can enjoy spectacular views, with Fuerteventura visible across the ocean. The coast around Playa Blanca is broken up into three large bays, meaning the beaches are sheltered and ideal for swimming or sunbathing.

Watersports fans should be sure to visit Costa Teguise on the east coast of the island. Here you will find windsurfing schools as well as a water park and golf course. There are also many cultural events that take place in the resort all year round, including its Brazilian Music Festival every June. Costa Teguise is just a 15-minute drive from the Lanzarote Airport car rental lot.

Spend a day in Arrecife

Lanzarote’s capital Arrecife is a lively city with a picture-perfect harbour. It began life as a small fishing village and its name is derived from the Spanish word for ‘reef’, due to the volcanic rock formations that lie just off its coast.

One of the most famous attractions is the Charco de San Ginés, a lagoon formed from sea water in the heart of the city. Surrounded by quaint fishermen’s cottages, this scenic area is a great place to while away an afternoon browsing the stores, sipping coffee in cafes or simply appreciating that view.

The discerning shopper will appreciate the fact that Arrecife is well known for its boutiques, with many of its streets lined with designer outlets and characterful shops. The main shopping street is Leon y Castillo, sometimes known as Calle Real, and it’s here where you’ll find smaller outlets selling local artisan goods ranging from food to clothing and souvenirs. You can reach Arrecife in under 10 minutes when you rent a car from Lanzarote Airport.

Marvel at Lanzarote’s landscapes

Drive your Lanzarote Airport rental car to the west coast of the island and you will find Timanfaya National Park, home to Lanzarote’s famous Montanas del Fuego, or Fire Mountains. These incredible natural structures were formed hundreds of years ago by a series of volcanic eruptions.

Preserved since then by the lack of rainfall on the island, the landscape is sometimes said to resemble that of Mars because of its extreme heat and red colouring.

Parking is available at the entrance to the park and access can be arranged by reserving a spot on a visitor tour, with buses or guides that will take you through the area’s most impressive sights.

Car rental from Lanzarote Airport enables you to see the best of this wonderfully varied island during your stay.

Important Notice for Customers with UK Driving Licences issued in Great Britain

When renting in the Canary Islands, all drivers with a UK licence (except Northern Ireland) will need to provide evidence of any driving endorsements. This also applies if you have a paper licence that was issued before 1998.

You will need to provide a ‘Check Code’ which enables you to share your driving record with someone, for example a car hire company. Check Codes are valid for 21 days.

For all Non-European Union renters, it is highly recommended your national driver's license must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP). An IDP translates the national license into various languages and is on its own, without the national license, not acceptable. If a license issued outside the European Union cannot be read or understood, then it is not acceptable, unless accompanied by a translation from the official source, e. g. embassy headed paper. This includes licenses which are only partly translated, Japanese and all Arabic licenses etc.

Driver's licences issued by the People's Republic of China/ Japan may be accepted provided you present an official Hertz Certification form. Hertz China/ Japan will issue this form on Hertz notepaper and will incorporate the Hertz China/ Japan Corporate seal. A scanned copy of the original licence will appear on the Certification form. The Certification form is valid until the expiry date of the Driver's Licence. Both the Certification and the original licence (with an International Driving Permit strongly recommended by Police authorities in Europe) MUST be produced at the time of rental.

If you hold a Driver's Licence issued in Vietnam, you need to present the original licence together with an authorised translation issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport. If both documents are presented at time of rental these licences are acceptable worldwide.
