Hertz Car Rental at Bergen Airport (BGO)

Car rental at Bergen Airport is a great way to see the best that Norway has to offer, allowing you to start your vacation in style as soon as you land.

With our pick-up point conveniently located on the airport site, you can get behind the wheel of your rental car at Bergen Airport and head out to enjoy the sights of the local city and beyond.

Bergen is an incredible location to explore. Pick up your vehicle from the car rental at Bergen airport and drive around 25 minutes by car to reach the quaint city. Known as the gateway to the fjords, it boasts stunning scenery – with hills looming high around it, and glistening water stretching elegantly beside the harbor.

From the picture-perfect old town with its painted wooden houses, to the mountainous backdrop that offers adventurous visitors even more possibilities to venture to, there’s so much to enjoy when you rent a car at Bergen Airport.

Driving In and Around Bergen Airport

By renting a car at Bergen Airport, you’ll get to enjoy the many stunning routes leading into the city and beyond. Whether you’re solely visiting Bergen itself or stopping off while on a longer road trip, the roads here are easy to navigate and relatively calm when it comes to traffic.

With your car rental from Bergen Airport, it’s easy to get to Bergen’s center. Take the 580 or 557 roads that snake up to the city center. The 557 is a wonderfully scenic route with a number of bridges to cross which offer stunning views of the waters around Bergen.

The 580 features many tunnels through the water and runs alongside the coastline. With lush greenery and mountainous landscapes to enjoy as you travel from the airport, it’s a trip you won’t forget – and hiring a rental car at Bergen Airport means you can go at your own pace.

After leaving the car rental pickup at Bergen Airport, you’ll be driving on the right-hand side of the road. Speed limits – signed in kilometers per hour – vary from around 30-50km/h (18-30mph) in Bergen itself to 80km/h (49mph) on many rural highways. Just check signs in case of any changes.

When driving in Norway, keep in mind that the country experiences very distinct seasons. Summers are generally warm and pleasant while winters are much cooler and snowy. Depending on the month you visit, this will affect how you navigate the roads. Routes closer to the city of Bergen should be clear and safe, but the further you head into rural areas, you may need to take extra care.

A Quick Guide to Bergen

Whether you’re looking for holiday car rental from Bergen Airport or making an all-important business trip, get there easier with Hertz. You can reach lofty heights and explore some of Norway’s most illustrious culture or navigate the city’s streets with ease.

See the city’s highlights, head to regional attractions a short drive away, or plan an extended road trip – taking in the beautiful scenery as you go.

Explore The Majestic Waterfront Of Bergen

Bergen boasts a laidback vibe and a slow pace of life, with the quaint cobbled streets and traditional housing overlooking its marina reflecting this calm, relaxing atmosphere.

On the harbor you’ll find a famous fish market where you can sample delicious seafood, cafes, bars and restaurants to sit out at and admire the view, and a UNESCO World Heritage site of classic, historic buildings housing shops and museums.

See the city from the water too, by parking up your rental car from Bergen Airport and hopping on a kayak or canoe. There are also regular fjord sightseeing trips taking place throughout the day, where you can enjoy the views of the city by boat, and more of the natural beauty surrounding it.

Take A Day Trip To A Musical Museum

Take a 15-minute drive with your rental car from Bergen Airport to Troldhaugen. Here you’ll find the charming home that belonged to renowned composer Edvard Grieg – and is now a museum celebrating his life and work.

See the restored rooms where Grieg lived with his wife Nina, and take the time to enjoy hearing some of his most beautiful music performed live. Regular short concerts and recitals are held throughout the year.

Drive Out To Mount Fløyen

By choosing car rental at Bergen Airport, you’ll get easier access to Bergen’s stunning mountains. If you’re looking for adventure you’ll find it on Mount Fløyen, located around an hour from Bergen Airport by car.

Park up at Rosenkrantz parking lot and soak up the breathtaking views. Dress accordingly and head out on a refreshing hike to take in the area’s natural beauty using the designated paths. At the stunning lake Skomakerdiket you can simply take a quiet moment to relax, or hire a kayak and have some fun on the water.

Experience The Breathtaking Glaciers

For an extended trip away from civilization, hop in your rental car from Bergen Airport and drive to the Norwegian Glacier Museum via the E39 – a journey that takes around five hours.

This incredible location is an excellent spot to learn about these important natural wonders, and you can also reserve a tour to walk across the icy escapades and see the glaciers up close. The walks are available in a range of difficulty levels, so there’s something for everyone.

Take A Road Trip To Oslo Or Stavanger

One of the most popular routes in the nation, head east from Bergen towards the capital city of Oslo, and brace yourself for incredible scenic views of Norway’s fair countryside. You’ll cut through mountains, drive alongside stunning waterways and see incredible peaks in the distance.

In total, it takes around seven hours to reach Oslo with your rental car from Bergen Airport, but you can break the trip up by stopping over at small towns such as Vossevangen with its stunning scenic gorge, or Hagafoss with its open-air museum.

Alternatively, follow the coastal E39 route south until you reach Stavanger, another incredible Norwegian city around five hours away.
