Rovaniemi Airport

Hertz Car Rental At Rovaniemi Airport (RVN)

Car rental at Rovaniemi Airport takes you to a magical city, situated on the Arctic Circle, which is the home of Santa Claus and the gateway to Lapland. It looks like a scene from a Christmas card, with a blanket of snow covering the ground for much of the year.

Our Rovaniemi Airport car rental pick-up point is conveniently located so you can collect your holiday rental car as soon as you land and be behind the wheel and driving around picturesque Finland before you know it.

Choose from our range of spacious and comfortable holiday rental cars. Simply browse our selection online, find the ideal option for your trip, and reserve direct in advance. Then you can look forward to exploring a destination where it’s Christmas all-year round.

Driving In And Around Rovaniemi

You’ll experience the magic of Christmas as you drive in and around this city in your holiday car rental, thanks to the captivating blanket of snow and ice that often covers the spectacular landscape.

Rovaniemi Airport is under a 10-minute drive from the center of the capital of Finnish Lapland. Take the 951 and join the E75 South which will take you straight into the city.

The airport is also situated under a five minutes from the Santa Claus Village. If you are keen to meet Father Christmas and want to stop here first, then join the E75 and head east for around a mile.

Rovaniemi is also a gateway to the wider wonders of Lapland. If you head southwest, the road follows the route of the Kemijoki River and takes you down to the E8 which follows the coastline along the Gulf of Bothnia.

The 79 takes you in and out of the city towards the northwest of Finland, the 78 heads towards the south and the 81 takes you southeast.

The roads are in good condition here and are relatively quiet. However, if you are driving your holiday car rental around Finland in winter then you’ll need to take extra care. It will be snowy – although significant build-ups are often removed from the roads by snowplows – and there will be a chance of ice. The days are short, so you are likely to be driving in the dark for some journeys.

If you are here in the summer, the nights remain light and bright due to the arctic location. Despite this, you must have your car lights on at all times when driving your holiday or business car rental in Finland.

Be aware that if you are driving your Rovaniemi Airport car rental in Lapland, there may be reindeer and elks on the road – but this is all part of the region’s magic.

A Quick Guide To Rovaniemi

The letters children write to Santa each year arrive at the post office in the Santa Claus Village right here in Rovaniemi.

Among the spellbinding scenery you’ll see huskies and reindeer pulling sleighs, Christmas trees decorated with colorful sparkling lights and, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of Father Christmas himself.

Visit Santa

You’ll need to wrap up for Santa Claus Village – which boasts a range of festive outdoor activities. Santa Park, on the other hand, will enable you to warm up as this remarkable cavern attraction is situated indoors.

If you wish it could be Christmas every day, then you are in for a treat here. You can meet the elves, either at ‘elf school’, during their show or at a workshop. Then follow the sweet smell to Mrs Gingerbread’s Bakery, ride the Magic Train and gaze around in awe at the toy factory. There is free parking available for your holiday rental car.

Take To The Slopes

Want to go skiing or snowboarding while you are in Rovaniemi? Then make your way to Ounasvaara Outdoor Resort, which can be found a short drive in your holiday rental car from the center of the city on the north side of the mountain.

Whether you are taking to the slopes for the first time or are more of an experienced skier, this has activities for everyone. You can also try your hand at tobogganing or bobsleighing. If you are here during the summer, when the snow has thawed, you can even explore this area by bike or pull on your hiking boots.

Arktikum Museum And The Northern Lights

If you want to learn more about Finnish Lapland and those that live alongside the Arctic Circle, then pay a visit to the Arktikum Museum. Park your Rovaniemi Airport car rental and discover a great deal of fascinating insights into local culture and history.

If you are here between August and April, then make sure you head to the Arctic Garden, which can be found behind the museum. Finland is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights and this is one of the most popular spots for doing so.

To give yourself the best chance of catching the spectacular green and purple phenomenon, try looking either side of Midnight, between 10pm and 2am in the morning.

Explore Lapland

Once you have soaked up the festive atmosphere in Rovaniemi, take advantage of having your holiday car rental and really get into the Christmas spirit as you explore Lapland from the warmth and comfort of your car.

Make your way to Pyha-Luosto National Park via the E75. This is a beautiful place to drive around, but you can also stop here to try horse riding or ice climbing depending on the time of year. It’s believed that there are more reindeer than people in Lapland, so you may well see these magnificent animals as you drive through the region in your holiday car rental.

Rent a car from Rovaniemi Airport to explore Santa’s hometown, before heading out to explore more of Lapland and beyond.
