Rent a car from Cooma Airport

Welcome to Cooma, the capital of the Snowy Mountains!

Cooma is the largest town in the alpine region, being centrally located between Canberra and Bega. Most famous for its perfect winter ski location, it’s a fantastic place to visit all year round. In the winter months, it’s a top ski destination, with ski hire available from many local shops and rental places. In the summer, it’s a playground of fun alpine adventures, with hikes, canoeing, white water rafting, and more available to you.

Cooma is located close to the other alpine towns like Jinderbyne and Perisher Valley. So if you come to the Snowy Mountains, you’ll likely want to travel around the local towns and see what there is to do! You can do this easily with a Hertz rental car from Cooma Downtown.

Explore the Snowy Mountains with Hertz

There’s plenty to do in the Snowy Mountains any time of the year.

In the wintertime, thousands head here for endless snow days. Whether you ski or snowboard, or simply come for the experience, you will have a fantastic time exploring all that Cooma and the surrounding snow towns have to offer.

Thredbo, Perisher, and Charlotte Pass are all just a 70-90 minute drive from Cooma, so make sure to hire a rental car to get to these popular snow destinations with ease.

Once the snow has thawed and the summer sun is in full swing, there are still plenty of adventures to be had. Cooma sits in the middle of three impressive national parks, including Kosciuszko National Park, Wadbilliga National Park and Namadgi National Park.

Kosciusko is probably the most famous of the three, as it’s home to Australia’s highest peak. In fact, Mt Kosciusko sits just a one hour and twenty-minute drive from Cooma. At 2,228 metres above sea level, it’s always an impressive sight. In the winter, it’s mostly used for skiing and in the summertime, you can hike across it. Make sure to add this to your bucket list for any time of the year.

Travel Cooma in your Rental Car

There’s plenty to do and see if you want to stay in Cooma town instead.

Learn about the history of the Snowy Mountains Scheme at the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre. See the plans for the future while also discovering how it got to be as it is today: a powerful energy source. You’ll learn about the engineering here, as well as the history of the scheme and the Snowy Mountains in general.

Of course, Cooma has plenty of lovely restaurants and eateries, too. From Cooma Thai to Rose’s Restaurant, you’ll find all the best places to eat around the Cooma town centre. It’s a delicious way to end a long day of skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer.

There’s so much to do in Cooma and the surrounding towns in the Snowy Mountains. A popular skiing resort, Cooma is fantastic all year round, thanks to the alpine environment. Perhaps use Cooma as your base before driving across to Mt Kosciuszko to hike to the top, or to go to the other towns in the Snowy Mountains area. However you choose to spend your time here, you’ll have a blast in your rental car from Hertz Cooma Downtown.

Fuel & Electrical Recharging Policy

Fuel is not included in your rental rate. Your vehicle will be provided with a full tank of fuel or if the tank is not full, we will provide you with credit for the missing fuel and you can decide how you wish to pay for the fuel you use during your rental. You have the following options:

Buy a full tank at the start …

  • Often referred to as our Fuel Purchase Option (FPO).
  • If you purchase a full tank of fuel from us at the start of your rental, you will not need to refill the tank before returning and will have nothing more to pay for fuel.
  • This is a good option for high kilometre journeys where you are likely to use a full tank.

Buy a half tank at the start….

  • It may be more convenient to pay for a half tank of fuel at the start of the rental and save time on refuelling by returning the vehicle with only a half a tank of fuel.
  • This is a good option for low kilometre journeys where you are more likely to use less fuel.
  •

FUEL PURCHASE OPTION (FPO)

We charge you at the start of your rental for a full tank of fuel at a price competitive with local fuel stations. You will have nothing more to pay to us for your fuel. Please note that we do not provide a refund for unused fuel.

HALF TANK OPTION

We charge you at the start of your rental for a half tank of fuel at a competitive price with local fuel stations and return with only half a tank of fuel. Please note that we do not provide a refund for unused fuel.

Return with a full tank …

  • Return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel purchased from a local fuel station.
  • This is a good option for low kilometre journeys.

IMPORTANT: Fuel gauges may still indicate that the tank is “full” many kilometres after it was last re-filled. To deal with this, we ask you to refill the tank within 15 km of the return location and bring your fuel receipt with you when returning the Vehicle. We ask you to present a copy of the fuel receipt to a Hertz employee or leave a copy in the Vehicle. If you do not do so, we reserve the right to apply a small charge – please ask at the counter for details.

…..or without refuelling

  • A good option if you are in a hurry, did not take FPO or a Half Tank of fuel and do not have time to refill the tank on return.

REFUELLING SERVICE CHARGE: We will charge you a price per litre to refill the tank. These prices are indicated on your Rental Agreement.

EV Battery Recharging Service Fee

You are liable for any reduction in battery charge percentage from when you picked up your EV to when you returned it (no refund will be provided if this figure is higher, upon return). If we are required to recharge the EV to return it to its battery departure level, we will charge you a price per kilo watt (kW), as detailed on your Rental Agreement.

EV Low Battery Recharging Service Fee

If you return the vehicle at 15% battery charge level or less, we will charge an additional recharging service fee, as detailed on your Rental Agreement.
