Northern Ireland’s proud capital Belfast is a city that’s thriving and there’s plenty to see around every corner. Each of Belfast’s quarters has its own character and appeal, from the bustling city center to the historic Titanic Quarter.

Belfast City Center

Belfast city center is a great spot to start. Centrally located in the heart of Belfast, it has a range of places to shop, eat and explore. If you want somewhere to stay, there are plenty of hotels and B&Bs for you to rest your head after a busy day of sightseeing.

Handily, many of the city’s best landmarks are all just a hop, skip and a jump away from its central hotels, too – so you can easily navigate your way around the top sights in the area Enjoy seasonal events at Belfast City Hall, spend hours within the vibrant nooks and crannies of St. George’s Market and browse the stores of Victoria Square – the city’s biggest mall.

Queen’s Quarter

You can find some of Belfast’s best attractions in the lively and well-connected Queen’s Quarter. Spend your days wandering the city’s horticultural heart at the Botanic Gardens – the Palm House's abundance of tropical plants and birds of paradise is a must-see.

If you’re looking for less tourist-based sights, Queen’s Quarter is the best place to do it. Its student population has seen the flourishing of cafes, bars, vintage stores, and indie art galleries along its vibrant streets. Perfect for exploring when you want to pick up some hidden gems or watch the world go by over a frothy coffee.

Cathedral Quarter

With its breathtaking architecture, gorgeous monuments and artsy hideouts, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Cathedral Quarter for something out of Harry Potter. A magical vibe seems to touch everything in sight – particularly the building from which the area gets its name, St. Anne’s Cathedral, an imposing stone giant that offers a window into Belfast’s rich history.

Other points of interest are the Metropolitan Arts Centre (MAC), home to international art exhibitions, and Belfast Central Library, but its landmarks aren’t the only thing worth noting about the area. Though home to many of the top Belfast attractions, the Cathedral Quarter is perfectly picturesque in its own right: Packed with pretty buildings, alleyways, and small streets filled with spirit. 

Cultural events happen here throughout the year, too, time your visit just right and you’ll experience some incredible events such as the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, the Festival of Fools, and Belfast Pride, so it’s the ideal place to stay if you’re looking to join the festival crowds.
 

Titanic Quarter

Belfast is the birthplace of the Titanic and Belfast’s Titanic Quarter is your port of call for learning all about the ill-fated ship, built right here at the city’s famous Harland and Wolff shipyard. 

At the gigantic Titanic Belfast Museum, interactive exhibits are spread across multiple floors, read the stories of the people behind the liner, and stand in the very place from where it left the city to embark on its infamous maiden voyage. Whether you’re intrigued by the history of Titanic or a fan of James Cameron’s 1997 film, you will love posing for pictures on the replica Grand Staircase, recreating the opulence and romance of the original. The tours make use of all senses. Through sights, sounds, smells and stories, you will get a full understanding of what the ship embarked on and separates the facts from the fiction.

In the Titanic Quarter you’ll also find the SS Nomadic, where you can dress up to get a taste of what life would have been like for a passenger on the Titanic, to which the Nomadic was a tender. Though paying homage to the Titanic is what this area does best, that’s by no means its only asset. Head to the Odyssey Complex venue for brilliant concerts, exhibitions, and more while the pier is host to multiple maritime attractions.

Linen Quarter

Back in the 19th century, Belfast earned itself the nickname ‘Linenopolis’ on account of its world-class linen production. Now, those old linen mills and factories have been converted into a suite of modern hideouts with chic bars, eateries, and sites such as the Ulster Hall, Old White Linen Hall, and the famous Linen Hall Library owing debts to the city’s past.

Culture lovers and foodies will find plenty to interest them here. Linen Quarter has some of the finest award-winning restaurants and drinking holes in town. Our suggestions include designating a driver and heading to either the stylish Coco, popular breakfast spot Harlem Cafe, or rooftop bar The Perch where you can enjoy the sprawling city from above.
 

EastSide

Perhaps quieter than the other districts – but still with ample charm – EastSide awaits your visit. Thousands of people used to work in the east of Belfast, employed in the linen mills and shipyards, and many famous names – including Van Morrison and CS Lewis – have called it home. Walk the streets they used to stroll, frequent the artsy cafes and bars along the way, or simply soak up the quaint scenery and old buildings.

This neighborhood is also the location for the famous 11-day-long EastSide Arts Festival. Every August it brings the best of music, theatre, visual arts, workshops, and more to the district’s thriving streets. EastSide is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy the city without being right in the heart of it, offering a glimpse of true Belfast life off the beaten track.
