What is PlatePass®?

PlatePass® is an all-inclusive pre-paid toll service that allows you to go drive through as many tolls as you want for the duration of your rental with Hertz. Many toll roads in the United States have now been transformed to All Electronic Tolling, meaning they no longer have booths for drivers to be able to stop and pay. PlatePass® is the ideal solution for you to make all toll payments without putting your foot on the brake – or breaking a sweat. With PlatePass® you get:

• No waiting in cash-only toll lanes
• No digging for exact change
• Ability to use all-electronic tollways and bridges, without using a personal transponder or paying the toll authority directly.

What are all-electronic tollways and how do they work?

All-electronic tollways use remote collection (also known as Open Road Tolling). This means that drivers using all-electronic tollways don’t have to pay with cash when driving through.

All-inclusive tollways work using transponders fitted to the vehicle. This transponder communicates with the tollway by radio to relay information on the vehicle and how it should be charged.

Can I cancel PlatePass®?

You can cancel PlatePass® by declining to include it at the start of your rental period. However, by cancelling PlatePass®, you may be liable for additional charges and find toll payments more expensive down the line.
