Newquay International Airport

Hertz Car Rental At Newquay Airport (NQY)

With its spectacular cliffs and sandy beaches, the scenic county of Cornwall is a popular holiday destination on the south coast of England. Its main international airport, known officially as Cornwall Airport Newquay, offers direct flights to other parts of the UK and Europe as well as connections to the US and Middle East.

Newquay Airport is the ideal place to land if you’re visiting Cornwall, and with a rental car you’ll find many attractive destinations within easy reach.

Whether you’re planning to explore the beaches or countryside, Cornwall has an excellent road network. It makes getting a holiday car rental from Newquay Airport the ideal way to get around.

Renting a car at Newquay Airport couldn’t be easier. You’ll find our pick-up point near the terminal at the airport when you arrive. We’ve got a great range of vehicles on offer, so you’re sure to find the right one for your trip.

Driving In And Around Newquay

Newquay Airport is in the village of St Mawgan on the coast of northern Cornwall. It’s just a short drive into the town of Newquay itself, which can be reached in your holiday car rental from Newquay Airport by traveling west along the B3276.

If you’re staying in the town, you’ll find it’s well-connected to other parts of the region via a network of A roads. These generally have a 60mph speed limit outside built-up areas and 30mph when passing through towns and villages.

To reach the city of Truro, with its historic architecture and impressive shopping amenities, it’s just a 13-mile drive on the A3075. The historic market town of St Austell, home to many attractions including the world-famous Eden Project, is only 18 miles away along the A3059.

Meanwhile, 50 miles along the A38 in the port city of Plymouth, you’ll find a major aquarium and many other attractions. Alternatively, a one-hour drive in your holiday car rental from Newquay Airport on the A30 will take you to the vast and breathtaking Dartmoor National Park.

Take the A30 dual carriageway – a divided highway – to access the M5 and M4 motorways (highways), the latter of which leads to the UK’s capital, London. Alternatively, the M5 will take you to the city of Bristol, one of the most important cultural cities in England.

Cornwall offers many scenic driving routes, which can be narrow and winding in places. The roads around Cornwall are not usually busy but if you’re travelling in very rural areas, it’s worth planning your route in advance and allowing plenty of time for your journey.

Unlike other countries in Europe, motorists in the UK drive on the left-hand side of the road and overtake on the right. Take note that it’s illegal to turn right on a red light.

A Quick Guide To Newquay

Newquay boasts some of the best beaches in Cornwall, and with a holiday rental car from Newquay Airport, you’ll find they’re all within easy reach. There’s also plenty more to discover in this scenic area of England, with a host of attractions nearby.

A day at the beach

Newquay is home to some of Cornwall’s most spectacular beaches, where you can expect to find long, beautiful stretches of sand with coves and rock pools, making them perfect for a day out.

The hottest months in Cornwall are usually July and August, when the beaches will be at their busiest (schools and colleges have their summer breaks over this period), but this part of England has a relatively warm climate for most of the year.

The most famous beach in Newquay is Fistral Beach, surrounded by scenic cliffs and sand dunes. It’s hugely popular among watersports fans thanks to its excellent surfing facilities and is home to many of the UK’s major surf competitions.

Another lively resort is Towan Beach, located in the center of Newquay at the bottom of a hill close to the Blue Reef Aquarium. Sheltered by a rocky outcrop, its sea is calmer than Fistral Beach, making it ideal for more novice surfers or kids who want to take a swim in the sea.

For a quieter day out, hop in your Newquay Airport car rental and head to nearby Lusty Glaze, a calm and peaceful cove where you can rent a deckchair and relax on the sand.

Historic harbor

Newquay has a long and proud history as a fishing town, and its port is still important today. Pay a visit to one of the restaurants near the waterfront and you can enjoy some fresh seafood while watching the fishing boats returning home with the catch of the day.

If you’re visiting Newquay in September, you might be here for the town’s fish festival. Chefs and food suppliers set up an amazing array of food stalls, selling locally caught fish and shellfish dishes.

From the harbor, it’s also possible to reserve a place on a boat trip out to sea. So park up your holiday car rental from Newquay Airport for the day and venture out to see some dolphins, seals and even some of the basking sharks that live off the Cornish coast.

St Austell and beyond

On the south coast of Cornwall, the town of St Austell and its surroundings are home to many fascinating attractions that are easy to explore with a holiday or business car rental from Newquay Airport.

Perhaps the area’s biggest claim to fame is the Eden Project. Located in a former clay mine near Bodelva, it’s made up of a set of distinctive bubble-shaped domes (known as biomes). Here, you can explore one of the world’s largest indoor rainforests, which features a canopy walkway where you can stroll among the treetops.

Another popular attraction in this area of Cornwall is the Lost Gardens of Heligan, a 200-acre site that was restored in the early 1990s after decades of neglect. Its jungle area is full of exotic plans, while the woodland walk features giant wooden sculptures dotted throughout the landscape.

Renting a car at Newquay Airport makes it possible to explore all these attractions and much more during your stay in this beautiful and charming part of the UK.
