Driving In and Around Wichita Falls

  • Wichita Falls Regional Airport (76305) charges $5 per day for parking your Wichita Falls car rental. Pay on exit by credit card or, if paying by cash, head to the pay station in the baggage claim area.

  • US Route 287 (US 287) runs northwest to southeast through Wichita Falls. Follow it northwest for Amarillo, southeast it leads to Fort Worth and Dallas, then continues to the Gulf Coast.
  • Interstate 44 (I-44) begins in Wichita Falls and runs for almost 15 miles before it heads into Oklahoma and onwards. It runs past the Sheppard Air Force Base.
  • US Route 82 (US 82) has two distinct sections close to Wichita Falls. Southwest of the city it leads west to New Mexico. The stretch that begins east of the city close to Henrietta takes you through Texas to Arkansas.

 

How to Get From Wichita Falls to Dallas

Dallas is around a two-hour drive in your Wichita Falls car rental.

  1. Get on US-281 South / US-287 South / US-82 East from Scott Avenue and Kell West Boulevard.
  2. Continue on US-287 South.
  3. Take Texas 121 TEXpress / Texas 183 Toll TEXpress to E R L Thornton Freeway Frontage Road in Dallas.
  4. Take exit 428A from I-35E South.
  5. Continue on Thornton Freeway Frontage Road in your holiday car rental until you reach your destination.

 

How to Get From Wichita Falls to Amarillo

It takes between three and four hours to drive the fastest route to Amarillo in your Wichita Falls car rental. From Wichita Falls, follow the signs for US 287 North, which you’ll follow for over 210 miles. Take a left on to I-40 West, then Exit 70 for US 287 North again.
