Just over 20 miles north of downtown Houston is the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. It's inside the city limits, which means it won't be too long of a trip to get to the city in your Houston rental car. Before you head out, though, you might want to sample a few of the airport's amenities.
If you don't want to wait until you get to your Houston rental car and go shopping in the city, there are options at the airport. Of course, you can find Texas souvenirs all around - from cowboy boots to local sports team apparel. Spirit of the Red Horse in Terminal C offers authentic Native American and Western gifts, including clothing, sterling silver jewelry and pottery, while Stelzig Ranch in Terminals C and D is where you'll find the cowboy and cowgirl clothing. As for news, you have plenty of options. You can stay up to date with stores and kiosks from The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, Fox News and CNBC News. If you want to pick up a newspaper while you wait to pick up your Houston rental car, the airport is the place to do it.
If you need to get around the airport from terminal to terminal, there are many options. You can hop on a train aboveground to get from place to place without having to reenter security, or on the underground rail line if you don't need the security clearance. There are shuttles available that will take you where you need to go, whether that is to a hotel or to your car rental, but you might have to take a train to get there. It's a large airport, so don't get discouraged if you seem pretty far away from where you want to be - just catch a train and remember everything's bigger in Texas.
