Geneva is Switzerland's second city and a truly international one - being home to the UN and the World Health Organisation to name just two of its worldly connections. Geneva is a modern and cosmopolitan city filled with bars and restaurants, which also has many historical and heritage sites including museums, religious buildings and archaeological sites. Car hire in Geneva offers the chance to see the city at your own pace. Aside from this, the chance to see the rest of Switzerland and also head into neighbouring France should prove very tempting.
Geneva has multiple points of interest for tourists; it is difficult to know where to begin. However, the Palais des Nations, home of the UN and the League of Nations before it is well worth visiting for a start. The building itself is perhaps unspectacular but taking a tour gives a real insight into the inner workings of the UN, its history and its achievements - including a visit to the Council Chamber which has hosted many historical debates and agreements over the years. There is also a large park behind the building which holds many monuments of international significance. The most recognisable sight in the city is perhaps the Jet d'Eau which is visible from Lake Geneva and offers a backdrop to a pleasant walk around the waterfront. From the lake you can easily access Geneva's old town which has many famous sites such as the 11th Century Cathédrale St-Pierre. Hiring a car in Geneva is a great way to get around the city as well as being able to visit nearby tourist destinations such as Gruyères or Lausanne.
