Brussels was created as a 10th-century fortress town, but for the modern day has become the headquarters of the European Union. It is the largest city in Belgium, and now has a population of more than one million. The city is divided into 19 municipalities and is home to an abundance of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, museums and art galleries. Hiring a car from Brussels Charleroi Airport means you can explore the historic Brussels Capital Region, taking in the stunning Grand Place, which has been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the unusual Manneken Pis sculpture and Parc du Cinquanternaire, a large, public park.
