Situated on Spain’s northern coast, Asturias is a playground for travelers, with spectacular mountains, dramatic valleys and wild beaches to explore. Car rental at Asturias Airport is an easy and convenient way to discover this green-tinged part of Spain. Our pick-up location is conveniently located so you can drive off and begin your adventure as quickly as possible.

To speed up the process, browse our collection of vehicles online and find the right one for your vacation. There are no hidden extras when you choose one of our cars, and our local team can answer any questions you might have regarding car rental at Asturias Airport.

Driving In And Around Asturias

The Asturias region is perfect for a driving vacation, with gorgeous coastline on one side, imposing mountains on the other – wherever you go it’s a feast for the senses when you rent a car at Asturias Airport.

While in Spain you’ll use the right-hand side of the road, passing on the left. Freeways here are known as Autopistas, marked with an A, with certain stretches having tolls. Speed limits vary by the road type and are marked in kilometers per hour – on freeways it’s 120 km/h (74mph) and in urban areas this reduces down to 50 km/h (30mph).

Cudillero is a short 20-minute journey away from our Asturias Airport car rental via the A-8. This pretty seaside resort is the perfect place to soak up the Spanish sunshine and feast on Asturian cuisine. If you’re heading to Luarca, stay on the A-8 and it’ll quickly take you to the colorful coastal town. Avilés is also close-by, under 30 minutes away from the airport if you follow the N-632. Here you can unearth local history and experience the infectious local energy.

Our car rental at Asturias Airport is also about a 40-minute drive north-west of Oviedo and you can get to the city by driving via the A-8 and A-66. Once there, park up and explore the historic old town and seek out its best shopping spots. Gijón is also found along the A-8 freeway, just 35 minutes away from the airport. Along with a large beach, this city has a bustling port to enjoy too.

Further afield, along the A-8, is Picos de Europa. This lush national park was Spain’s first and has a blend of stunning peaks and lakes to whet the appetite of any keen explorer. Just a three-hour scenic drive along the coast with an Asturias Airport car rental.

A Quick Guide To Asturias

Asturias is on the rocky Atlantic coast of Spain, sandwiched between Galicia and Cantabria. Despite its breathtaking natural beauty and romantic coastline, it remains one of the country’s best hidden gems. There are few places in Europe where you can go hiking in the mountains in the morning, relax on a sandy beach in the afternoon and then eat out late in a buzzing city restaurant in the evening. But all of that, and more, is possible when you rent a car at Asturias Airport.

Head for the hills

Asturias is an outstanding place to explore. Head for the Cordillera Cantabrica, a rocky mountain range that stretches across northern Spain from the Basque Country to Galicia.

The highlight of the region is the Picos de Europa National Park. Striking peaks, idyllic meadows, glittering lakes – welcome to hiking paradise. Trails here vary, with something to suit all abilities. One of the best? Ruta del Cares, which meanders through a breathtaking gorge, high above a sparkling blue river. Pause to drink in the views of the green-tinged valley below – it’s quite a remarkable sight.

If you prefer a gentler walking experience, then journey to Somiedo Natural Park in south-west Asturias. This will take you under an hour when you rent a car at Asturias Airport. This UNESCO-listed area is home to five thickly-wooded valleys and a network of hiking trails. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the biosphere reserve as you stroll along through oaks forests, wild flower meadows and past rivers. The majority of Spain’s brown bears have sought refuge among this incredible landscape, so keep an eye out – although sightings are rare.

Take in the towns

After you’ve explored the countryside, make your way to the region’s capital city, Oviedo, just a 30-minute drive inland with your car rental at Asturias Airport. Walk through the historic center and it’s easy to fall for its charm. Yellow stone buildings fringe narrow lanes which give way to bustling squares. Plaza de Alfonso II is one of the prettiest, surrounded by an enthralling mix of classic architecture and with the Catedral de San Salvador at its western edge. Admire the blend of Gothic and baroque detailing that forms the façade, then head inside to see a collection of medieval artefacts, monarchical tombs and a series of Romanesque sculptures.

Next stop, Cudillero. This quaint fishing village is worlds away from Oviedo but is equally impressive. Head into the coastal destination and you’re greeted by a parade of pastel townhouses which descend all the way down to the waterfront. Fresh seafood is in abundance here – settle down at El Faro, tucked away down one of Cudillero’s backstreets, and feast on scallops, hake cooked in cider and salted cod salad. Sound too delicious to wait for? No problem – you can reach Cudillero in around 15 minutes when you rent a car at Asturias Airport.

A craving for coastline

Costa Verde, the ‘green coast’, is one of the quietest shorelines in Spain, with wild sandy beaches, mysterious caves and dramatic cliffs, just a 25-minute drive with an Asturias Airport car rental.

Playa del Silencio takes its name from the secluded nature of the spot and is one of the best beaches in the country. Park up on the clifftops near Castañeras and head down to the beach on foot – you’ll soon see why it’s famed for its beauty. Sunbathers doze on the pebbly shore next to the sapphire waters.

The wide golden shore of Playa de Torimbia is lapped by crystal clear waves and is another must-visit while beach hopping in Asturias. Swim in the calm waters, take a stroll along the cliffs or simply soak up the sunshine.

Whether you’ve come to Spain for sunshine, hiking, remarkable religious architecture, or all of that and more, there’s no better way of seeing the Asturias region than with car rental from Asturias Airport.
