Hertz in New York

Whether you're a native of the state or just a visitor, you might be surprised at where your New York day trip in your rental car can take you. For city residents sick of the bright lights and constant buzz, there are quite a few great destinations - and it's no problem if you don't have a car - it's easy to rent from Hertz. Visitors who are flying in can hop in a car and go to places much more out-of-the-way and interesting than they'd be able to hit from the airport, too. Here's a look at a few of our favorite trips.

If you're starting from NYC, it's only about three hours to the Catskills in your New York rental car. There's plenty to do - if you like skiing, this is where you'll want to be in the wintertime. Summer brings golf, hiking, plenty of plays to see and fine dining that wouldn't be out of place in the city itself. You can also come to the region in fall to hunt - which certainly isn't an option in the urban areas you may be coming from. Bear Mountain offers a state park close to NYC, complete with mountains, the west bank of the Hudson River and even a zoo. There's even a spa at the Bear Mountain Inn if your tastes run to the more luxurious.

If you're committed to a road trip for its own sake, find a New York rental car and get going to the Finger Lakes Trail. It starts at Cornell University's picturesque campus and the welcoming town of Ithaca, before looping around Lakes Seneca and Cayuga. The stops you can take are endless and varied, including plenty of state parks. History buffs will love the opportunities in Seneca Falls to see the birthplace of the U.S. women's rights movement in the Women's Rights National Historic Park.
